Dean like “Why the fuck are all these women so fixated on Sam’s hands? They’re just hands. Like... normal dude hands.” And then he finds himself looking at them really closely, when Sam is pointing out something in a library book, or when he’s sorting through coins as they sit at a gas station, or bringing Dean a coffee or burger or beer. And Dean like, “I mean, they are large hands I guess. Is that what women want? Big hands, big... hahaha. I mean that’s ridiculous obviously, hahaha.” ... ⊙_⊙

And then, “I guess he has quite slender fingers. Is that a thing? Long fingers. And I guess he’s kind of careful in the way he holds things, I guess. You know, which is whatever.”

And then a dream, quite vivid, and he wakes up with Sam’s big warm hand on his shoulder and, “Dean, you okay? You look kind of flushed.”

@arkvark2 Why do you suppose Dean didn't call Sam for back-up to help their mom? To keep Sam safe?

I actually thought Dean would have called Sam but couldn;’t reach him because the BMOL compound have cell jamming technology, but I realize I’m assuming things that are not said texually.  So lets take it at face value that Dean didn’t call Sam.  Yes it’s to keep Sam safe from the BMOL, and also Dean has the confidence he can take out a group of vamps since he’s done it couple of times on his own.  But to also cover up his hypocrisy for working with Ketch when he threw Mary out of the bunker for doing the same.

But still, Sam can also be considered his best friend. Dean stood up with Sam for his "wedding". Dean has given up his most precious gift of life and soul for Sam, what says friend more. Also, when they were "enemies" to each other, they still saved each other.

Sam is more than just his best friend. He is Dean’s reason for living.

but yes, right, what better way to test out the difference between the BMOL approach and the Winchesters’ approach, or to test Mary’s loyalties I guess, than to bring her up against that by having one of ‘her boys’ be the hunted?

@arkvark2 If I was being balanced, I should also question why Sam didn't call Dean for back-up when the vamps attacked. Thanks for having a go at my question. I now realize how bias I am in questioning Dean's motives, but not Sam's.

I assumed Sam didn’t call Dean because they were under attack right now, that’s what an ambush is.  Time was of  the essence and vampires had already broken in and killed people.  Besides he had Mary who is the 2nd best hunter in the compound.
