A merganser hen was seen in Bemidji, Minnesota with more than 50 ducklings when this photo was shot. When Cizek returned to the lake, there were another twenty bringing the total to 76 ducklings following this mama. People around Bemidji said they frequently saw the big brood together in the following weeks.

Some ducks lay a few of their dozen eggs in more than their own nest. That could account for some of the extra ducks. Scientists suggest ducklings often get confused by hens that resemble the mothers they imprinted on, and they may follow the wrong one.

Excellent Point

While we still don’t know if these elephants will be abused or amused in their new environment, at least they have space. That’s something they were destined to have in order to engage with nature and each other, as opposed to iron clad rail cars and concrete paddocks.
