It was super fun to read that whole OUaT-missing-friend-wedding thing again. Thanks for digging it up. But something must be really wrong, because it said Feb 2023 and that would be 2 years ago according to math. Impossible. Also re-reading I do think August helping human versions of the Bug's Life characters would be hilarious. a) He can throw in that he is friends with a cricket. B) It's a whole circus, he will fit in.

You know, the second I saw that I had a message in my inbox I had a feeling it might be you!

Anyway, I saw this last night but I needed time to ruminate on things and I'm glad I did because I cannot stop laughing about the possibilities here.

So, here are my most ridiculous thoughts on the matter under the cut:

Let's make August already running a bit late for the wedding for some innocuous reason. Marco and Archie have left nice and early (since Archie is officiating the wedding after all) and August has to go and pick up his suit jacket from the dry cleaners/some other small but vital reason, and so he won't be arriving with his father. He's not late late, but he is slightly off track now. And he's gonna ride his motorbike back home, get changed, and walk to the venue after he's sorted things.

This is where things start to go wrong.

Since the town is singing and dancing (I know that the town weren't actually cursed to sing in the present day content like they were during the flashbacks, but since we get them all singing at the wedding, I'm still gonna headcanon that the rest of the town were also singing completely unprompted around that time) I'm picturing half of Storybrooke like that one specific song from Buffy, and August arriving on the scene like Robert from Enchanted because he's too late to the song to join in and is just generally confused as to why everyone is singing and dancing. And because everyone is too busy singing and dancing he can't even get done what he needs to get done.

Eventually he gets his suit jacket or whatever he went there for but he's already had to walk through three different musical numbers in order to do so. This is possibly also where the mention of him being covered in glitter comes from.

He hops back onto his bike and is still kind-of-mostly-on-time for the wedding when all of a sudden a vehicle pulls out in front of him and he swerves and (very gently) crashes his bike.

As it transpires, the vehicle was actually the travelling circus of human!bugs-life bugs. Flik has been realm jumping in order to find 'warriors' to help fight Hopper and co. back in his own realm. (Don't ask me how he travelled to Storybrooke, I don't know, but) they've only just arrived and now they'll need a magic bean or something in order to get back home.

Flik rushes out of the truck to apologise and check up on August. August is surprisingly okay. His bike isn't looking too good though.

Also, speaking of warriors, me and a couple of friends were trying to come up with characters that August could interact with during his little B plot adventure, and two of the suggestions were Mulan and Ruby (because, hey! why not bring them back to Storybrooke?) So I'm here to suggest the possibility of Ruby, Dorothy and Mulan (who has stuck around as a kind of third-wheeling bodyguard during their time in Oz) all running into Flik and the gang during their own adventure. None of them knew that they would end up in Storybrooke, but, when Ruby steps out and away from the travelling circus, she's obviously elated to see that 1) they're back in Storybrooke and 2) that August is right there.

August spots her and walks across to her. He's puzzled but there's a growing smile on his face. "Ruby?" They talk a bit. Ruby can introduce Dorothy as well as Mulan. He then explains that he'd love to stick around but that he has a wedding to get to (he's not even sure he'll have time to get changed at this point or else he'll miss it completely) and, after confessing that it is in fact Emma's wedding, Ruby obviously wants to go too and they all arrive with Flik and the other 'bugs' at the circus.

(side note: I'm living in an AU where the Black Fairy's curse didn't arrive the SECOND the song on the roof had finished, which allows them time to arrive at the wedding late and actually interact with Emma and the others. Emma is mostly just relieved to see August show up in one piece, even if he is still covered in glitter and a couple of scrapes from the bike crash) and Snow is overjoyed to see Ruby show up out of the blue (even if the curse is still about to hit the town)).

That's all I've got for now but anyone and everyone is welcome to throw their own ideas/tweak my ramblings if they so desire~

I think Sisko would have a very hard time on Voyager. His mind would go to the Borg long before they even have contact and Wolf 359 trauma would make it harder for him to deal with this. The way Miles was so specifically unhappy to be on DS9, the Cardassian station of all places, with his history.

Also one of the biggest strengths - that Ransom was clearly missing - is Janeway's science background. I think we also see it a bit in Tom, who idolizes the good old days. The exploration of it all. Explore new things without a safety net. When the DS9 crew ventured in the Gamma Quadrant, there was always a way back home. There is lots to talk about right there.

The DS9 character to absolutely thrive on Voyager would be Dax, well, Jadzia Dax specifically. Wise and curious, good combo. But Dax would also feel a new kind of fear, because Trill is so far away, no new host easily reachable. Could this be the end? Fascinating.

Janeway on DS9 would climb up the walls. To be stationary. She would use every chance she gets to get into the Gamma Quadrant. If she would get the whole Emissary storyline as well, I think she would be more open in some ways (so ready to embrace how these unknown aliens perceive time) and rejecting others (dealing with Winn Adami???? oh boy).

Honestly, I agree with this, I noted in a previous post that actually, Sisko and Janeway were positioned very well because their postings don’t really interact with their traumas much. The Borg were barely anything on DS9, and Janeway only had to deal with Seska, who was laser-focused on Chakotay.

A good thing… because Seska didn’t really trigger Janeway’s Cardassian triggers ala Miles.

Also one of the biggest strengths - that Ransom was clearly missing - is Janeway’s science background.

If I remember right Ransom doesn’t like direct confrontation. His style is hide and run, from what I remember all he’s ever commanded were small science vessels.

I suspect that Sisko would react to Ransom and his crew almost exactly how Janeway reacted to Ransom.

With even less pushback, because when he did the same thing with Eddington he had little pushback. Dax was even in full support of Sisko’s actions.

This is true! I kind of wish there was either a Dax or Garak-like character on Voyager to mix things up as Seven did. Speaking of Seven of Nine… unfortunately, I don’t and can’t see how Seven would survive beyond the first episode on a Sisko-led Voyager.

Unless maybe Dax talks him out of it? Dax would make the case that Seven would be the ‘local knowledge’ as they traverse Borg space.

Sisko would be a lot harder on Seven because of his trauma.

But because of Jake, Sisko always has a clear motive to get back to the Alpha Quadrant. It’s not just for the crew but because of his son. He doesn’t want to miss the life of his son, this would be a more bittersweet ache for Sisko, I feel.

Unless! Jake was with him during the Maquis hunting mission? On the other hand, I don’t see Sisko wanting to put Jake in danger like that, so soon after Wolf 359.

On the other end, I would love to watch Janeway butting heads with Kira Nerys, initially, because I don’t think Janeway has the same trauma as Miles had but also I don’t think she would love interacting with Cardassians either.

And, knowing the DS9 writers, I feel they would play up Janeway’s Cardassian War Record. Garak would know Janeway’s war record and I bet he would enjoy poking at Janeway.

Janeway would indulge Quark but only to a point.

But also, it would be so interesting for Scientist!Janeway to butt up against Bajoran spirituality and religion, especially if the Wormhole aliens pick her to be their Emissary. Sisko was already (initially) uncomfortable with the role, what more Janeway?

Janeway is diplomatic but her faith is in science. I think in this way, Sisko was more open, especially once he warmed up to Bajor and its cultures. I don’t know if I can see Janeway ever comfortable in the Emissary role.

Janeway vs Kai Winn would be fascinating. They’d both tear at each other with sugar-sweet smiles.

Janeway would also be pushed to make the same decisions as Sisko did in In the Pale Moonlight because just like Sisko, she takes every death personally. And the deaths during the Dominion War were constant.

It would be fascinating to see Janeway in the Siege of AR355 though just to see Janeway in another siege war. She already mentioned on Voyager how devastating that was, in her low-key way.

Saving the Cardassian was a moment that won Janeway back her soul, if not for that moment, I honestly feel Janeway would’ve been lost.

Also, I feel Janeway and the Founder would have An Enemy Mine situation instantly. Janeway would also 100% support all of Nerys’s anti-Gul Dukat moves, she’ll hide it but she will low-key condone it.

Sisko was always contemptuous of Dukat but it was never personal, Sisko had to be driven to the moment of hating Dukat. Since, again, his hate would go towards the Borg more. But for Janeway? It’s a skip towards hating Dukat.

We could also see Janeway in a more casual setting more often, maybe even date. I have a feeling even if Janeway stayed in the Alpha Quadrant, Janeway and Mark Johnson wouldn't have stayed together.

Hi there, just wanted to throw a huge THANKS your way. I remember a time when the day after an ep of Grey's aired the edit tags would fill up with all kinds of scenes. And now so many content creators have thrown in the towel, the fandom has mellowed out and if it's not about a ship there is barely anything. But with you I know at least somebody here has Jo's back and fills my need for all the gifs to tag-vomit on. I'm very grateful for that. (ﾉ^ヮ^)ﾉ*:・ﾟ✧

omg please don't even write that thing about Maria in the tags. I'm afraid somebody could hear and get the wrong idea. I am so scared that because of the time jump around 25+years since 1995 somebody in the writer's room will think it's too much of a hassle to keep an "older" Maria around the still young looking Carol and that a grown-up Monica is enough for emotional support and just... aaaaaaaaaaaaah! THE BIGGEST FEAR HONESTLY!!

I watched Requiem a couple of months ago, going in like "it can't be as bad as I thought it was back then". Nope, still a super shitty movie with way too many unlikeable people. I do enjoy the Predator/human team-up of AvP and also the set. But Requiem... why? Why?? (And I have a very high tolerance for bad movies.)

Uh... A rant ahead. I just had a lot to babble out about my dissatisfaction and disappointment with AVP: Requiem, especially after I really enjoyed AVP.

See, I agree about the whole unlikeable people thing. As well as... As the movie got started and went on (I’m pretty sure over half of the movie), NO human survives an encounter. ALL of them die. That makes me so uninterested in getting attached to anyone because they’re going to die. The movie doesn’t show you otherwise.

Also, the movie is supposed to be about Aliens vs Predators. NOT the stupid humans who don’t NEED the pointless scenes that have no use except make you hate them more because they make all the stupid decisions (WHY would you agree to “hang out” with someone you’re attracted to/in love with, if the viewer’s supposed to believe that, if they JUST broke up with their boyfriend either THAT DAY or the day before and they tell you OUTRIGHT - like, rebound and it really doesn’t mean ANYTHING UGH UGH UGH) and don’t show you why you should care about the characters except they talk to each other and look vaguely worried. Also - that scene in the graveyard where the guy with the gun waves the mother and daughter over like, “Hey, hey, come over here! Be safe!” and like a second later he’s threatening to shoot them and completely lost his cool. What?

And nothing happened in the beginning of the movie for a good thirty minutes. Nothing that made any kind of impact or impression. Oh look, people in the forest. The movie goes on. Next scene they are attacked by Face Huggers. The movie goes on. Boy wakes up in the forest and screams and his chest erupts with Alien. Showing. Everything. Like EVERYTHING needs to be shown and told, no inferring here! ALL of the chest eruptions were shown. And the “reveals”.

And, just, ugh. To reiterate, the way it was filmed, the Aliens and the Predator were definitely the second billed characters. Not so with the first one. I LOVED that team up with Lex and the Predator as well. Also. WHY did only one Predator answer the call? First, going by Predator 2 and AVP, they always travel in packs. And it’s just SO illogical that only one, for a highly multiplying species, would be enough. Especially with the humans they’ve known for millennia make good carriers and incubators.

And the setting for the first movie, just like you said. It had a POINT. This one seemed like a hopeful bridge to a third movie, which, honestly, makes movies so boring.

I did like the Alien/Predator hybrid, except... There was no explanation of how it could suddenly give several Aliens into one host, and that, ugh, disgusting way it did, except finally just assume that’s how Predators procreate and move on. I don’t know if it was the way it was filmed or edited, but I was very lost on why the sudden pack of Aliens in one host - though honestly, didn’t really care, either, so whatever.

I also couldn’t see a lot of what was going on except big black thing fighting another big black thing in blankets of little or no lighting. I’m supposed to keep track of who is who, how...?

Anyway, I think I’ve babbled everything out I was groaning about in my head while watching. Just... What a lovely way to end my Alien/Predator/AVP collection. On that movie. Blargh. Guess I’m gonna have to find the two prequels and hope they’re better!

Which is also why I want to put in a request. Can you maybe do a set using Jo's speech from 10x05 about badly wanting a father (dreaming up 15 versions) - and then the gut punch from 15x19 that he's not just dead, but maybe the line "that's my father that you're talking about" "no it's not". There is no father to speak of...

As someone who loves The Village deeply - HIGH FIVE. Reducing that amazing story about love and community and courage etc etc to the twist is just so… frustrating. Plus the score, cinematography and cast alone are so flawless.
