Fic title: a dark and stormy night
listen, my heart says that this is the classic THERE IS ONLY ONE BED TO SHARE OH NO
we’ll go Daisy/Trip for reasons
we were robbed of undercover episodes in a spy shows of all things so it’s one of those deals where Daisy and Trip go undercover and they really gotta sell it, they’re playing a rich couple who wants to bid on an auction of a 0-8-4 before HYDRA can get to it and they go all out, Trip has a tux and Daisy has a beautiful dress and a wig and there is dancing and hiding in hallways and the theft of a painting but that’s just usual action
it cools down to them waiting for extraction and they’re at a hotel (AND ITS DARK AND STORMY OKAY) and the room they got only has ONE BED and they’re tired from the mission and Trip offers to take the floor but Daisy is like “that’s dumb hop in” and they share a bed and they wake up snuggling and they kind of have a talk while they get dressed and it leads to a promise of an actual first date where they can dance without worrying about death and they almost kiss but Coulson accidentally kills the moment
send me a made-up fic title and i'll tell you what i would write to go with it
In the process of settling down for the night, there was one step Edward never neglected. He had learned his lesson from the incident with the kagarok nest.
Every night without fail, he would have Midna transform him; he would make a wide sweep of the area to ensure it was clear of hostiles; and then and only then would he let himself go to sleep. Midna preferred to sit out the patrols, which suited Ed just fine. He was less obvious without her riding on his shoulders.
Ed stood up from the campfire. “Alfons, I’m going to make sure the area’s clear. I didn’t see anything going in but I still like to play it safe. If anything happens, I won’t be far; if you whistle I’ll be right back.” He smiled, conscious not to let his teeth show, and slipped away into the shadows beyond the tiny campfire. Barely above a whisper: “Go ahead, Midna.”
Midna was fiddling with the shadow crystal when Ed heard the sounds of someone--a Hylian someone--moving through the underbrush. “Midna--”
The transformation had already started to take hold as he turned around to see his travelling companion enter the trail behind their campsite.

Edward heard the familiar crunch and rumble and immediately reacted. For a second, he was the only person in the street looking up; then he was flying across the street. He couldn’t reach the other side in time to knock the kid out of the way of the falling rubble, but he could--
Old instinct kicked in, equations flying through his head, variables clicking into place as the equation balanced. Then factor in the change in plate tectonics--
He was the circle.
Ed’s palms met in a resounding clap and he slammed them against the wall. Brick and mortar surged outward and down, creating a partial dome over Ed and the girl. It was small but sturdy enough to do the trick.
Broken masonry thudded off the curve and slid to a halt inches away. For a second, there was no sound but his own pounding heart and the echoes of the rattling pebbles that trailed after the true danger.
Still carried by the remaining fumes of the adrenaline spike, Edward clapped a second time and returned the wall to its former state. He glanced upward at the damaged facade of the building before ushering the child away from it. “Someone’s going to have to look at that later. Come away from here.” he mumbled. The German sounded almost Amestrian--it was Amestrian.
At least the two languages were close enough to be understood.
Hohenheim had told him that there was no alchemy here. Maybe there hadn’t been until Edward brought it here. It wasn’t boasting when it was the plain, unflavored truth that Edward had long since surpassed his father. Alchemy was not impossible here. It could be done.
He had just done it.
The realization sent his heart off again in a muddle of joy and fear. He wasn’t quite back to rationality yet.
What was he going to do now?

In retrospect, maybe going off-trail had not been the best of ideas.
Link picked his way through a thick tangle of vines and tree branches, fifty feet above the Faron rainforest floor. It was a good thing he wasn’t afraid of heights.
It was curiosity that had brought him here. Well, curiosity and a squirrel. But then he’d seen a monkey, which had apparently recognized him and directed him this way, and maybe he was a bit lost but that was fine, he’d gotten much better at picking out the game trails since leaving Ordon and the monkeys always seemed willing to guide him back to the beaten path sooner or later.
He was almost at the boundary of the Lost Woods--he could feel it in the way the hair on the nape of his neck prickled, smell it on the air, hear it in the faint sounds of music--a song oddly familiar that he could never truly place--that was always on the air.
Some part of him was hungry to return there, to explore. The temple he had found in the forest depths--pristine in its gate to the past--left him with a million questions. Why build such a magnificent edifice there, and why abandon it? Who had done the building?
The first two times he’d entered the secret grove with the Skullkid leading him, the air itself had been more of a barrier than the Skullkid’s antics: thick, heavy, a sheer weight of pressure attempting to force him back, to forbid him entry. But when he had returned the Master Sword to its resting place, he had felt none of that. The forest was quiet and solemn. Navigating it had not been a challenge. The message could not have been clearer. The Lost Woods stood as a test, he had passed it, and there was nothing more for him there.
He had heard and seen no sound of the Skullkid. The stillness and emptiness was eerie, as if the mischievous sprite had never existed--or if he had existed only as an extension of the forest’s will, as devoid of true mischief or malice as the wooden puppets he’d sent to attack Link.
Link had his own will. It had been his own decision to proceed, to oppose the spread of the twilight. But now, like the Skullkid, he had fulfilled his purpose. Would the spirit of the hero now sleep until the next time it was needed, leaving him only a shadow of what he had been, like the shade of his ancestor? Or was it the true nature of his soul, to continue on and defy injustice in its smaller but no less cruel forms?
The telltale hum of magic, closer, rougher and less ancient than the Forbidden Forest, alerted him and pulled Link from his reverie. He turned this way and that, trying to pinpoint the source, but the sound seemed to come from all around him. That wasn’t good. It must be right on top of him.
Link leaped desperately for the next tree branch, but the hum didn’t abate. It was strong enough now to rattle against his sternum. Link reached for the sword Rusl had made for him, sliding it halfway out of the scabbard.
The throb of magic rent the fabric of the world below him and he tumbled down, scrabbling at the edges of the rent in reality in vain. The familiar sensation of turning half-immaterial tugged at his spirit with ghostly hands. With a cry, Link freed his sword and slashed at his half-imagined foe, blessing Zelda again for the blessings she’d laid upon the blade. It was no Master Sword, but it could at least bite.
He was rushing downward, a grim wind tearing at him, faster and faster.
The impact drove the breath from him. He was back in his own body again, knees aching from the impact with the ground. The air was heavy with the smell of tainted paper, cruel magic, and the foul aftertaste of combustion. He was staring at chalk lines that were eerily reminiscent of the patterns on the Mirror of Twilight.
This was not the Twilight Realm, however.
There were other people in the room, most of them men. It was the woman, however, who concerned Link the most. Her face masked a life of hate behind powder and rose lipstick. She offered him a hand up and all his instincts rebelled against it.
Link wrenched the tip of his sword from the floor and sheathed it. The men in the room seemed to relax. They were talking at him but he couldn’t understand; the words were gibberish. It might have been Hylian or it might have been some other language entirely; it was their body language that was the most telling.
Link settled into a relaxed posture. It seemed to put them at ease.
Without warning he leaped into a sprint for the door, ducking and rolling under grasping hands, kicking the feet out from under one of the men who blocked his path. A sound like a bomb going off but more contained echoed through the room, hurting his ears. Link ducked sideways and out the door. A long line of rickety glass windows faced him. He vaulted over an elegant mahogany table and hit one feet-first. The glass smashed and he rolled to absorb the impact on a sloping lawn, trailing shattered shards. He was on his feet again in a second, running flat-out into the darkness and scattered trees and freedom.
