Something Lovely

Buried deep, like a treasure they lie, locked away.

What could it possibly be, under all the dirt and in decay?

It's something wonderful, marked by a stone, upon it all you need to know.

Who it belonged to, when it was made, and when it was buried deep below.

It's something beautiful, something useful, something that I long to be akin to.

It's not bothering anybody, yet dutifully gives to the world around it life anew.

It's such a beautiful, lovely thing.

What is it, you ask?

Why, is it not obvious?

The most incredible thing, the finale of all.

A corpse in a grave.

And soon enough, I'll be a lovely one too.

And perhaps then, I'll feel whole.
