This trip was going to be their thing, something that only the two of them shared in their group of friends and family. They were going into the future, they were going to start a new life in another galaxy. When Walter had agreed to make the trip it had felt like some sort of dream. In reality it had just been a lesson, teaching him that there was no god. What sort of god would be cruel enough to strand him alone on a ship, the only living thing awake for another ninety years. Ninety years...fuck.
He’d handled it about as well as one could be expected to handle it. There were about 30 scheduled transmissions to be sent back to Earth the next time they were within service range and who the hell knew when that would be. After his anger had faded, however, he wound up sobered but accepting. David spent a long time sitting outside his twin’s pod, gazing down at him through the viewing port and wiping tears from his face. What would it be like for Walter to wake up in ninety years to discover his brother was...dead--expired all alone after a cryo-pod’s error?
How would Walter face this new place all alone? David had promised to be there with him-- beside him. No, this wouldn’t do. He had to find a way back to sleep. So he’d begun searching for an answer-- any sort of answer. Along the way David had learned some very interesting things but...nothing had brought him any closer to getting back into stasis. Then one day as he was reading the operational manual for pod’s, David’s eyes froze on one line in particular.
To perform an emergency wake up inside of the pod, one must gather the following tools...
An emergency wake up... Perhaps if he couldn’t join Walter back in stasis, then the only solution would be to... No. That was out of the question right? David watched Lawrence of Arabia six more times and read ‘Loitering with Intent: The Apprentice’ thrice more before he found himself standing next to Walter’s pod-- toolbox in hand. “This is the right choice, Walter. I’m positive of it. It’s unnatural for twins to be separated. I’m sorry this happened to us.”
David’s hand lingers over his brother’s visage through the thick glass, stroking his ring finger against the smooth surface affectionately before he kneeled and pulled out the drawer the control panel sat in. It only took a few moments before the panel sparked and the sound of machinery within whirred to life. Gazing up upon his success with wide blue eyes for a moment, David clambers out of his stupor in enough time to push the panel back in place and grab up the tool box.
Fleeing out of sight, he stashes the toolbox in one of the hallway’s maintenance closets and walks speedily towards the courtyard to await his brother...while...pretending that he was not awaiting him at all. He withdraws a comb from his pants pocket and brushes it neatly into place as he walks. Under his breath he practices being stunned-- ‘Walter? Is...what are you doing here?!’ Yes, surprise before celebration, followed by a touch of sorrow. That would be believable.
Perching down at the table he’d set up earlier, he picked up the sliver of charcoal and takes up work on a still-life drawing. Yes, see? He’d been here this whole time not waking up his twin. The illusion was more than believable, right? Smudging a little charcoal on his jaw for good measure, David tries to lose himself in his art rather than his eager, desperate thoughts.
KENT PARSON: I feel like Felix is single handedly responsible for Walters search for freedom/introprospection Spencer ✨: lbr he probably is bc no one else has philosophical convos with him, everyone else just wants to stick their dick in him XD KENT PARSON: I hope Felix never had this talk with David XD KENT PARSON: "Felix we have Walter now PLEASE only speak to him about work and NOTHING else" Spencer ✨: hahaha KENT PARSON: Felix @ everyone: Um.
