Clearlove: Coaching makes me feel excited and relaxed | EDG post game press conference
EDG won in a clean 2-0 against V5 today, here’s what they have to say in the post game press conference.
LPL starts to allow two coaches on stage during draft since this spring, you and coach Heart were both on stage today, how does that drafting phase feel like?
Clearlove: I feel it's very good, Heart has been coaching for many years, he has a lot of experience. And two minds is always more rounded than one, so two coach on stage is a very good policy.
First win of spring, are you happy with everybody's performance? What's your goal this spring?
Clearlove: We won, so I'm pretty satisfied, but I do have some regrets here and there, because I think we can end the game faster. I will go back and review the game with them, we will practice harder.
Fireloli is casting your first game, is that some kind of buff to your team?
Scout: Not really, I didn't know he was casting today.
In game 2 there was a teamfight that you won, but Mole managed to get the fire drake. Were you worried then? How do you adjust from this?
Meiko: I think it's ok, it's ok that they got the drake. We didn't have a good position at that time, some were chasing, and Taliyah wasn't protected.
V5 drafted Lucian and flex'd it to top for Mole, were you pressured in lane?
Jinoo: Big pressure.
You flashed into a wall in game 1, did anyone on the team noticed?
Jiejie: I think I'm the only one aware of it, felt kind of embarrassed.
Do you have any tips for Senna players?
Hope: Senna's power rises as the game goes on, so just farm in early game.
Today is the first LPL game that you are a coach in, do you have any different feelings?
Clearlove: Feels excitement, and relaxed. Our coaching staff and players already had meetings about what draft we are gonna use, so if nothing surprising come up, we will be sticking to the plan.
You had early advantage in game 2, but V5 manage to get some tempo off the back of their split pushing, what was the communication like during then?
Scout: They can't 5v5 us so they kept split pushing, forced us to rush baron and then fight. So we forced them to lose their tempo, keep catching their players off guard.
iG post match press conference: Rookie will keep practicing during holiday break
iG defeated DMO 2-0 on January 15th 2020 and accepted a press conference after the win.
Why choose Ekko in game 1?
Rookie: Because I know this champion very well, Ekko is a good lane match up against Rumble, and Ekko won't get ganked, can do well in a 1v2 situation.
In last game you said you thought you needed to improve yourself, how do you feel about your performance today?
Rookie: I think I've gave all that I've got today, but I can do better.
Finishing week 1 with 2 win before CNY, what's your take on your first week?
Coach: Our first set win against FPX feels more like luck, second set win feels like because we practiced ahead of other teams, they don't have as much practice time as we do, so we won today. I'm ok with the results of the two sets, a big relief right now you can say.
Two games in three days, are you tired? How do you adjust?
Leyan: Not really tired actually, I'm more thinking about we play first and then we play again, so we would finish faster than other teams. I think it's fine, not tired at all.
Two win to greet CNY, what's your plan for this holiday break?
Rookie: I feel like if I were to have a too fun holiday break then I might be bad at the game when I return, so I would just play game diligently. Since I will be back in Korea, I can use that time to play on KR server.
Two win before CNY, how do you feel? Do you have plans for holiday?
TheShy: I'm happy that we won two games in a row, didn't think about holiday plans really, until now I've been practicing really hard, so I might rest a little.
iG has a reputation of never work over time (as in they either win 2-0 or lose 0-2), you get to experience it today, how do you feel?
Puff: Feels awesome, I think any botlaner can win today, our mid top and jungler are just too good today.
You said you wanted TheShy's signature last time, did you get it this time?
Puff: I've already asked Shy ge(means brother) for photo and signature, all done, will be bringing them home.
iG Coach: We Are Certainly Preparing to Break FPX’s Win Streak
Q:You and XiaoAL solo killed each other in three minutes in game 1, why do you go so hard on each so early?
TheShy:I felt like I can solo kill him, but he was more strong then I thought, so we traded kills.
Q:Did Weiwei make you feel pressured? How do you think he did today?
Ning:That 1v2 in top lane was not something we expected, we mis-communicated. I don’t have any comments besides that I think he did pretty good today.
Q:Why do you play Pyke today?
Baolan:If enough champions are getting banned out, Pyke and Kalista will be a proper comp, so I choosed it.
Q:Olaf scored three kills in game 2 early, how do you target him?
Ning:I just avoid him completely, the solution is to just don’t go chase him. Try to do things when he’s not around.
Q:They swapped mid and jungle in game 2, did you expect it?
Coach Mafa:The comp we drafted in game 2 needs to have early advantage, and use it to smooth into late game, we all know it, so we fight aggressively.
(Ran’s note: think team translator made a mistake here)
Q:You will be playing 100% winrate FPX, can you beat them?
Coach Mafa:We are certainly preparing to break their win streak, but so far FPX played exceptionally well, so we will be facing them as a challenger.
Q:Akali in game 1 was really good. Can you comment on yourself and Maple today?
Rookie:I think in Akali vs Leblanc match up, Akali has more advantage in late game, so you have to try to not fight him in early game, delay her item power spike, wait for your teammates to lead the tempo. Maybe because our jungler and bot duo had more lead, Maple can’t do anything, so we had bigger lead, I think I played my part.
Q:In game 1 Sion juked Ezreal, what’s your take on Sion? Why can you play Sion like a carry champion?
TheShy:Sometimes Sion can be counter, but he’s actually a decent champion. Tbh tank champions are easier than carry champions, so if you can make sure you don’t die and farm into late game, it’s impossible for them to get you.
Q:Now that half a split has passed, do you think your team still has problems?
Coach Mafa: Some small problems have always been here, but the thing about problems is that some are fixable some aren’t.
Ray:I Gave My Vlad 5/10 Because I Didn’t Even Play Out Half Of My Scrim Results
Q:It’s the famous Xiao Zhao - Wuji match up, how do you think of his laning skill (iBoy’s nickname Xiao Zhao is a character in the well known novel The Heaven Sword and Dragon Saber , and Wuji is the protagonist)?
iBoy:I think he plays great, it is me that’s a little bit nervous when laning against him.
Q:Why do you choose to camp top today?
Clearlove:Both games both sides played carry champions, so by helping top I can help team to snowball better.
Q:4-0 so far, do you think you have achieved your ideal status?
Clearlove:In terms of status, after two sets I think it’s still just so so, I missed many gank opportunities. I will try to better my performance, play better.
Q:What’s the difference between Clearlove starting and not starting?
Coach Heart:Stability. Before our players were very aggressive, after he starts our stability level’d up.
Q:Enemy Pyke roam’d a lot in game 2, how do you cope with it?
Meiko:The advantage of this champion is that he can roam a lot in the early game, so as long as we made it past 10+ minutes where the skirmishes starts, he won’t have much use. He’s just strong in early game.
Q:Last time you said EDG’s goal is keep winning, before today’s games did you prepare anything special for RW?
Clearlove:We didn’t prepare anything more than we did, our coach is just expecting us to play our own level. As long as we make less mistakes, no matter it’s laning or teamfighting, we are both strong.
Q:Your Vladimir was astonishing in game 1, how do you think of your performance? Which is the most important aspect of you winning MVP in game 1?
Ray:I gave myself 5/10 because I didn’t even play half of my scrim results. The most important aspect is that my teammates all worked really well with me, they all played high level skills.
Q:Fans are saying this is the most clean game since start of the split, can you comment on their performance? Who’s the MVP in your opinion? What’s the odds of EDG vs JDG?
Coach Heart:Game 1 was really clean, I can understand their game 2, they were a bit too happy. I want to give MVP to all my players, because this is a team game.
JDG played really well lately, but I think if we can keep this momentum going, we can win. I don’t know the actual odds.
Q:How does Scout think of himself today? How does he think of the opponent?
Scout:I did just so so, made plenty mistakes. I feel like the enemy mid is very confident, he’s ok.
Q:How do you think team changed since Clearlove is back?
Meiko:After Chinese New Year, he joined us in scrims, feel like team’s stability gone up significantly since then. His suggestions all leaned to the not so risky side. Before he came we would be playing at risk a lot.
Heart: Clearlove Can Bring Peace And Calm To the Players
Q:Congratulations on your comeback and stopping EDG from the losing streak. Why do you choose this game to be your comeback game? Is it your own arrangements or the coach's order? Will you be playing more from now on?
Clearlove: Actually I've been scrimming since after Chinese New Year. I was having a bad fever and flu so I missed practice(and didn't play on stage). I went to the hospital and got better and I've been practicing ever since, so I played today.
After two constitute loss, what adjustment did you make? EDG's remaining schedule looks very tough, what's your request of latter half of spring split?
Coach: They have been playing not so well before, maybe they forgot a lot of things. After watching them play today, I think the basics are coming back to their heads. I want them to keep this status, keep pushing higher.
Spring split is almost half done, looking back on your first split in EDG, what's the most memorable moment? Has there been any particular tough obsticle to overcome?
Coach: The most memorable part is after our first game against SDG, we won, when they came back from stage, they all smiled happily and excited. At that moment I hope they can always smile like that. (Heart wanted to keep on answering the latter question but got interrupted by Scout: enough enough)
You played the tank champion Urgot in game 1, but AP mage Zoe in game 2. Which one do you prefer? Juggernaut or traditional AP mage? Which type do you think fit current meta more?
Scout: Personally if I can play well in game, I'm happy to play any champion. Right now there aren't any OP champions, it depends on teamfight and the comp of your teammates.
Who's the shotcaller today, you or Meiko?
Clearlove: We all did, we just say our opinion, and we make desicions together. Scout is also communicating with us about his thoughts now, many times they are good, so we just decide together.
Why do you choose to be back now? How's your current power?
Clearlove: My performance is ok, since it's the first game, I played two champions and they were just so so, I got carried and won. Feel like I can play better and better in the future.
What changes do you think Clearlove brought to the team?
Coach: He can bring peace and calm to the players.
What's your definition of your relationship with Meiko?
Iboy: You can guess, I don't want to tell you.
What do you want to tell your fans today?
Clearlove: They've been worried about me for so long, now that I start to play on stage, I will keep playing. Just like our coach said, the goal is to keep winning, I will work hard towards this goal.
Who do you think helped the most in your Zoe game?
Scout: Opponent.
There was teases about Clearlove playing before, why do you choose to let him play today against SN?
Coach: I feel like he's here. We practiced, feels like our players really really need him.
In both games you drafted Galio as 2nd pick, and gave it to Meiko, why?
Coach: Watched a lot of games recently, high winrate, and he's really good on this champion.
What's the shotcalling situation since Clearlove's back? How did the two baron fight initiate?
Meiko: Since he came back, because he's more experienced than Haro, so the suggestions he gave will be better. As for the baron fights, because our comp were better when fighting in those areas, so we just waited there for them.
Coach Heart: Clearlove Will Play On Stage During Spring Split
In their first match in 2019, EDG defeated the new comers SinoDragon Gaming, or SDG, in a swift fashion. They ended game 1 with 12 kills while not giving out a single kill, ended game 2 in only 19 minutes, showed absolute dominance towards the new comers. This victory will resolve fans' nervousness coming into the new season, since most ones didn't put them high on their pre-season rankings.
After the game, EDG did a group interview with LPL medias, here are the interview.
You took both games in ease, how's the team status? What's your goal this split?
Coach Heart: They did pretty well in today's games, carried out the things we prepared in scrims and followed some points we asked them to take care of.
This split, the goal is to bring EDG's confidence back and overcome our flaws.
Can you comment on your opponent SDG today? As a new team, what advice do you have for them?
Coach Heart: I heard that SDG's coach is the one that used to coach my former team MVP, if so I'm welcoming him to the LPL.
How does winning MVP feel? You can feel Iboy's style is getting more and more steady now, what's the reason behind your change?
Iboy: It's only the first MVP, there are still a lot of matches to play, I'll just play them one by one nicely. I don't think I've changed my style much, it's just their comp doesn't have tools to target me, so I didn't die as much.
What's your expectation going into 2019?
Scout: Hope I'm not getting any weaker.
How do you think of their Victor bot in game 1?
Iboy: How do I think? We will just play regular ADs, which works really well into the odd ones. SDG's players have very specific styles, they want to play their own meta.
Are you still more willing to play carry champions like when you were in Cloud9?
Ray: I tried these champions before, I like them very much myself, but didn't work out well. If there's more chance this year, and I feel like I can use them better, I will use them.
How's everyone doing before match? Have you thought about today's score(before match)?
Coach Heart: I didn't think of it, players were bit nervous before match. I've said something about release the stress, but it's a secret.
Your XinZhao really pushed the tempo of the game, is XinZhao your pocket pick?
Haro: Not really, my favorite champion is Nidalee.
Why do you choose to sub out Iboy and sub in Hope in game 2?
Coach Heart: Our team will try different things in future matches to be better prepared for them. That's why we made this swap.
In Demacia Cup, you said you saw the flaws in them, how's the adjustment going?
Coach Heart: It's going well, they're overcoming them gradually.
In game 1 your tempo was slow, why do you close game 2 so fast?
Meiko: In game 1 they didn't have as much initiation, and they played it very safe. In game 2 played more around early game, they need the early advantage, so they played aggressively, and we grabbed this chance. They can't play late game, so they kept fighting us, and lost them all so there went their chance at winning under 20 minutes.
Have you thought about winning them at 2-0? They did well in Demacia Cup.
Iboy: I thought about 2-0 but not this fast. It's new season, everything is undetermined, every team has the chance to win. But I didn't think we'd win so fast.
Both games they picked their pocket picks but not meta picks, have you predicted this before match?
Coach Heart: We encountered a few Victor AD in scrims, looks like now anything can go, any champion can play. But I did tell them how to deal with this comp.
SDG mid played his signature champion Aurelion Sol. Can you comment on his performance? Do you think this champion counters Zoe?
Scout: He has some early roam opportunities, their mid played it pretty safe, his performance is ok.
They played Nidalee today, do you think his problem is in champ select or lack of experience?
Haro: Since I’ve only played for a year, I’m a rookie myself, I don’t have much experience. I played plenty Nidalee, feels like he’s like the old me, I like to steal stuff, so I caught him.
How much does EDG grow in coach’s eyes?
Coach Heart: They did grow, feels like we are more like a team now.
Hope’s rank is the highest among teammates, do you teach them regularly?
Hope: I duo with Clearlove, Clearlove asks to duo with me everyday.
How do you think of SDG’s performance today? Any suggestions for them?
Iboy: I think they’re really good and confident, they played what they want to play, even though they lost, but still deserves praise.
Will Clearlove play in spring?
Coach Heart: Yes.
A bunch of traditional ADCs got buffed in next patch, do you think they can come back to the meta?
Hope: Traditional ADCs and mage ADCs both have their goods and bads, both will do.
As a veteran player, can you comment on the new comer’s bot duo today?
Iboy: They played a lot like me, they were constantly getting baited by us, if they played long enough they’d probably know more.
How do you think of their pocket pick Zilean and A’Sol today?
Scout: Just like what coach has said, anything goes. I have encountered these champions in a long time, so I didn’t do well against them.
It’s only the first game of spring for the veteran squad EDG and the new comer SDG, but if it indicates anything, it’s that you need to respect the elders, they’ve walked your path, and they survived it.
