It had always felt right. Or at least fine. But something changed.
It was between tournaments. He had a longer break than usual. There was some other tournament, with other contestants that were only for this tournament. But he didn't pay attention to what happened to them, in fact, he was advised not to.
They told him to ignore it, it might mess with his head if he looked into it. And what had they ever done that hurt him? Its better to be safe than sorry, anyway.
So the days went by, and he did what he could to pass the time.
He tried his best to ignore it. To ignore them, those strange people, familiar despite never meeting them. But the dreams were impossible to forget.
He was different from her. But they were the same, too. She wore the same clothes, but different at the same time. Her hair was darker, longer, and she had pink heart-shaped sunglasses on top of her head.
He was someone else. Who was she? Who was this other person, in a tournament just like those he was in?
The first round, the first night, was unbelievably easy. They announced the contestants. MapiccWho and EvboWho. He—she—must have been EvboWho, right? It would be weird if it was otherwise, since Mapicc was another contestant like him.
And what was the "Who" part about?
But he votes poured in in her favor, and she won by a long shot. There were so many. He figured one of those "frauders" must have been doing it. He didn't know much about them, but they were powerful. Sometimes, they would come and talk to the contestants. That's how he knew most of what he did regarding them.
There was a newer one that, in a way, resembled him. Not really. But they wore a cloak with the same pattern as his hoodie. And the timing lined up, when they showed up was when that first dream happened. When the things in the dreams started happening. So he figured they must have been behind those events, somewhat, at least.
Another day of waiting for the next tournament, but also dreading what the next one starting would entail.
He ignored the dream as best he could. They were all so vivid. The first was easier. Nothing had really happened.
The next night. The next dream. Across from her was a contestant named "Wemmwho." She must have been the equivalent of Wemmbu in this thing. She looked just like him. He didn't know Wemmbu too well, they had talked a couple of times before, but not much.
They talked, it didn't matter what about. Even the most mundane topic felt special when talking to Wemmwho. Time passed, it barely felt like any. He knew it must have been a full 24 hours from start to finish, since that's how long the polls lasted. But it felt so quick. So little time, and she forgot that eventually it would end. He almost forgot that he wasn't her, and that it was all dream and it couldn't be real.
They were so happy. It was rare to ever have something like this in a tournament. He embraced every second of it. He shared their joy while the clock steadily ticked closer to the end.
One day wasn't long enough. They should've been together for eternity. And maybe they would be. The frauder that looked like him—Evwho, what a weird name— told her that they were trying to tie the poll so that she and Wemmwho could move on together.
She was so hopeful that it was possible. She knew that they could tie. She knew the frauders could manage it. She didn't even consider that it could fail.
Only a few minutes remained. She didn't feel sad. She knew they would both survive, and who knows, maybe they could win the tournament together.
A minute left. She gazed at Wemmwho, into her beautiful purple eyes that sparkled so perfectly. They smiled at each other, not needing to say anything anymore. They were hopeful.
And she had fallen in love.
She didn't know it was possible to find anything good in these tournaments. He didn't either. Maybe they weren't all so bad.
[/kill] never was clean.
Wemmwho's blood covered her face. Warm and sticky. Her vision was blurry, her whole body shaking as she desperately grasped her dying lover. Tears poured from her eyes and soaked Wemmwho's sweater.
This shouldn't have happened.
One vote.
One single vote for her, only a few moments before the poll closed. That had caused this?
