SOMETHING FISHY ONLINE.....

That's right! But not until the 7th of November!

We have one last Film Festival to screen at (Cornwall Film Festival) before I unleash 'Something Fishy' online. I'm excited to share it with those of you that haven't seen it and I hope, if you enjoy it, you will share it with your friends and family.

I would also like to thank all of you, for putting up with the endless Facebook posts, tweets and blog/vlog updates that you were kind enough to follow, read, re-tweet, support or politely ignore all throughout last and some of this year.

By sharing the entire journey with each of you, I was in a way held accountable for the result, which lets face it, being my first film, could have been a very public disaster. Without being too soppy, I know that it was all of your support that encouraged me along the way and kept me believing that I could do it.

And then there was my amazing crew. If it wasn't for the best crew in the world, it never would have been a success and I would never have had the chance to be immersed in such a nurturing experience; not just as a creative but as a person. Every donation and every helping hand I received, was like winning the lottery each day - so damn humbling and moving.

I currently have a few projects in the works and I hope I can continue to rely on your support and positivity. When these projects start to heat up and I start to status, tweet, blog/vlog about them all over again, I hope you can forgive me come Wrap Party time when I reward you with free booze. ;) Or if I can't afford that (here's hoping I can) loads of hugs....I've been told many times I give a good hug :)

The evolution of Una Vista

This film was written at the beginning of the year.

I locked myself away for a month and did my best to get a script written. I had something I wanted to say but I couldn't seem to find the right way to say it.

With every draft the script changed drastically. I don't need to tell some of you that, because you were the ones reading it from draft to draft.

My agent, Simon, Lucilla, Mel, Liz, Paradox, Matt, Andy, Luke, Ben, Candice, Arabella, Priscilla, Sophie, Warwick, Leigh, you all read at least 1 draft and I'm sure some of you assumed I was slipping away from the world of the sane, as the script went from comedy to drama, introduced and cut out characters and all in all became a written version of my attempt to make sense of my own personal realizations and observations (I had recently had a Birthday, enough said).

I submitted a script that was the best I was going to do before the given funding deadline and of course, missed out on funding.

It wasn't the biggest surprise in the world because finishing the script became more about the deadline than about what I wanted to say. Putting the script away for 6 months was probably the best thing that could have happened. Yes i know! 6 months!

Why did I bother opening the file again in an attempt to finally tell this story? Well, I befriended a lovely Producer by the name of Colin Elphick, who, thanks to his mum, was forced to watch my film at Dungog. We had a coffee once we got back to Sydney and the obvious question of 'what have you got in the works?' came up. I expressed that I had a few projects I wanted to do - but as for shorts, well, there HAD been a film but I had put it aside. I also went on to explain I had abandoned it because it was missing something and that maybe, in all honesty, I was having a script therapy moment! Colin encouraged me to send it to him. I did and Colin, being the optimistic person he is, felt we could fix it and submit for a different funding opportunity.

Back to the drawing board I went. The script was revised and we submitted. We're now shortlisted for the grant we applied for. In 3 weeks time, we'll know if we've made the cut and can go forth and make this film come to life.

I have all these grand ideas and I get butterflies just thinking about what I would do with the film, if we're fortunate enough to receive funding but at the same time, I'm super scared. I think that feeling will always be there. As the budget grows, the cast increases and the scale of the film becomes larger, I guess it's only natural but hey! Challenges are important - 'feel the fear and do it anyway'!

Happy to keep you updated and if we only get this far and no further, then, it's one step closer than before and that's enough of a win for me!

It's time to do it all again.....

As my first short makes it start on the festival circuit, the wheels are beginning to turn on my next venture.

Una Vista is the first time I've written something that isn't a comedy. All of the projects I am currently working on are comedy based but this short, is quite different.

The concept for Una Vista came about on New Years Eve. I had been following The Daily Love religiously via twitter and had been immersing myself in any form of self-help/self exploration. We've all done it at some point or another and for me, it got me thinking. Imagine if someone was to become so dependent on positive affirmations and motivational thought that they couldn't function any other way?

So, the idea may have started here and it did come together as a comedy to start with but the more I re-worked it, the more it transformed into a story about serendipity and perspective. Lo and behold, I end up with a drama on my hands and a story I really want to tell.

Now to raise the funds!

For those of you that charted the progress of 'Something Fishy', thankyou for your support. I hope you will enjoy the next arduous journey with me and hopefully, once more, it will be an immensely rewarding experience.

First Time Filmmakers Grant Screening!

February 23rd (Wednesday) from 4-7pm at The Chauvel in Paddington is the screening date for all of the films that were awarded the First Breaks grant from Metro Screen & Screen NSW. This is a sneaky opportunity to see 'Something Fishy' and ten other films all for FREE. See you there!
