500-yr-old Live Oak - January 2015 This 500-year-old Live Oak Tree was on the grounds of the concert venue at Luckenbach, Texas. As bleak and dusty as most of the area is, it is hard to imagine a tree like this surviving for 500 years, but Live Oaks are very sturdy trees that can grow almost anywhere. Its towering and intertwined branches make for an interesting image. MWM

Luckenbach, Texas - January 2015 I had really hoped to be posting current images by now, but it has been cold and windy here in Casa Grande and I haven’t been out on my bike enough to get any useful images. Also, the cold is delaying some of the spring wildflowers, etc. so there isn’t a lot to take pictures of. Hopefully things will improve soon, but in the meantime I will fill a week with images from when we were in Texas in 2015. Yes, Virginia, there is a Luckenbach, Texas. It dried up as a town a long time ago, but was– and still is– a concert venue for many country-western singers. The place was made famous in a Willie Nelson / Waylon Jennings song “Back to the Basics of Love,” and I admit that the song is the only reason we made the drive out there. The weathered buildings and very old trees, however, at Luckenbach make for some good images. MWM

White Crested Rooster - January 2015 This White Crested Rooster was probably the most interesting thing we saw at Luckenbach, Texas, but now when I hear the song say, “Let’s go to Luckenbach, Texas, with Waylon and Willie and the boys,” I can say that I’ve been there. MWM
