After phasing through the front door, Oswald spotted Ortensia in the garden. He excitedly ran up to her. “Ortensia! Ortensia! I know ya can’t see me, but I’m…” He trailed off as he noticed her complete lack of a reaction. “Ortensia? Is somethin’ wrong?” No response. “Ortensia! Ugh, why can’t ya hear me?!” Still nothing. He gasped, a look of horror crossing his face as the realization dawned upon him: He couldn’t be seen OR heard. It was like something out of a nightmare. This had to be a dream! It couldn’t possibly be real, could it? Desperate, he decided to look elsewhere, hurrying down the driveway. Then suddenly, he felt his arm collide with something solid. He stopped, startled. He hadn’t bothered to avoid her, figuring he would just phase through her like everything else, but he had bumped into her, and she reacted!

He gasped at this sudden realization, his expression changing to one of relief. He then tapped her shoulder, giving her a brief moment to process it before he gently grabbed her hand. He lifted it up and guided it up across the surface of his invisible face, from his round chin, over the bulge of his oval-shaped nose, across the round surface of his forehead, and then along the full length of one of his long rabbit ears.

Feeling something against his shoulder, he glanced down. Seeing his beloved Ortensia, he instantly smiled and gave her a kiss on the head, wrapping an arm around her protectively.

☾ - Sleep Headcanon - MickeyWhen Mickey is badly sick or injured, Oswald tends to dote on him a bit. He will even sit in a chair beside Mickey for hours while the mouse rests. It’s part of his overprotective big brother instinct since he’s afraid something might attack his brother is in his weakened and vulnerable state. It’s also a result of his experiences making him a bit paranoid about losing his loved ones again. That’s not to say Oswald can’t leave Mickey alone at all when he’s unwell, but he’s definitely a bit reluctant to do so. If he has to leave, he will always make sure to leave someone he trusts to watch over Mickey for him until he returns.

♥ - Family Headcanon - Mickey Mickey is the only blood family member Oswald has left of his original family, and Oswald values that very much. He is Oswald’s last remaining connection to Walt, and Oswald actually sees a lot of Walt in Mickey. It makes him grateful sometimes, because it’s as if Mickey was Walt’s final gift to him.

☮ - Friendship Headcanon - Gusൠ - Random Headcanon - Gus In all honesty, I really haven’t thought about his relationship with Gus much, so I’m unsure what to say… The games imply that he is aware of some of Oswald’s insecurities, but I’m not sure if that implies a deep friendship or not, because it might just be from knowing Oswald for so long, since Gus was likely forgotten only 10-20 years after Oswald. I guess Gus might have been someone Oswald vented some of his feelings and troubles to, or went to for advice? (This is just brainstorming; I’m not making this a concrete headcanon.)

ൠ - Random Headcanon - OrtensiaHe takes pride in her accomplishments, like her gardening skills. She’s helped with many garden plots around Wasteland and when someone admires or compliments them, Oswald takes pride in stating how his talented wife is responsible for them.

☆ - Happy Headcanon - OrtensiaNothing makes him happier than seeing Ortensia smile. It’s something he thought he’d never get to experience again after she was rendered inert, and he appreciates it more than ever now. Seeing her truly happy just makes him melt.

KH AU: Headcanon idea — Darkness

((I finally have some ideas for KH!Oswald’s relation to the ‘Darkness’ element of KH!

Basically, when Ortensia was in a coma as a result of a Heartless attack, Oswald nearly gave in to the Darkness. He was so devastated that she wasn’t waking up after weeks, that the darkness began to feed on his grief whilst constantly spawning many more Heartless around the town. Oswald fought them off for a while, but slowly his feelings of grief began to consume him until he felt overwhelmed.

Then, taking the form of an internal 'Dive into the Heart’ battle, Oswald fought a losing battle against his inner Darkness. Just as he was about to be defeated, Ortensia’s disembodied voice called out to him, and her magic gave him the strength to fight back and drive back the darkness into the depths of his heart. (Ortensia is a mage in this AU, so that is where her magic comes from.)

Oswald woke up with renewed strength and confidence, quickly setting out to defeat the many Heartless he had accidentally spawned in town. Hearing Ortensia’s voice had given him some hope that she could still be revived, and that it may not be so hopeless after all.

However, as he fought off the Heartless, he found that his darkness was now integrating its way into his attacks, making them much more powerful than before. This made him realize that the darkness may not be so bad after all if it could be used as a power source to do good. However, his darkness-infused attacks became more and more unwieldy, until one was about to hit an innocent kid. The kid yelped in fear as the attack came toward him and Oswald managed to call off the attack just in time, leaving the kid unharmed, though a bit shaken up. Oswald quickly apologized for his mistake, realizing that he had to be more careful with his power and try to keep more of a balance of light and darkness. However, with how strong and unmasked Oswald’s emotions often are, control doesn’t come as easy to him as it may to others.

After a lot of practice though, he has been able to achieve a decent balance between utilizing both light and darkness in combat, though not to the level of mastery of someone like Riku. With Oswald, the amount of control he has is related to the level of difficulty of the battle, as well as the stability of his emotions. The higher the difficulty and less emotionally stable he is, the less control he will have. But when it comes to small, easy foes, Oswald has a lot of control, and as a result, he sometimes likes to show off and defeat them with more power than necessary. Not in a mean and nasty way, so much as being a bit excessively proud and desiring recognition from others.

As for how Ortensia wakes up… not clear on that yet exactly, but I was thinking that Oswald attempts a healing spell on her again, this time, boosting its power slightly with a touch of Darkness and she wakes up this time. As a result, Oswald may be exhausted afterward. Not sure if that works or not, but that’s just an idea I had.
