Excerpt from the diary of Lucy Brambley (or perhaps a letter) W/ photo clipping attached
I caught Ru up on the roof today. She finished her homework early and so I had set her loose in the garden before I went to work in my office. She’s a smart girl and trustworthy (I thought), so she seemed as if she’d be fine on her own. She climbed up onto the roof.
Ru says the was doing experiments, dropping pebbles and things down the gutter pipes. I fear she may jump off one day, testing if she can fly. She’s already told me she thinks she’s part fay, on Ethan’s side or perhaps passed down from great grandma. That’s how she said it, looking up at me sweetly with her curls all askew “Did Great Great Grandma have brown eyes, Mum? I think she may have passed down the Selkie gene if she has…”
Dear daughter, what are you reading in those library books. She knows she isn’t a fairy, doesn’t she? Like I said she’s a smart girl. She just reads too much folklore and too many old books. But I do want her to make her own way in the world. I have to let her find what she likes. I just hope she never jumps off of the roof in these experiments.
