Sneak peek! Last month Colored Girls Hustle collaborated with HelloBeautiful for an affirming & empowering self-image photoshoot with the lovely young women of color in BCAM High School's sista circle in Brooklyn. We provided photography, creative direction and accessories (can you see the Luminary Sol jewelry in the video?).
These young ladies created a collective poem about their sisterhood as well as individual poems about their own beauty and strength. Their photos will be featured in a self-published book alongside their poems, organized & designed by their facilitator and mentor Jessica Valoris of J.valoris. Stay tuned for more photos coming later this summer! Like the Colored Girls Hustle facebook page and sign up for the newsletter to get the latest news from us.

Colored Girls Hustle inaugural “Luminary Sol” summer 2012 collection of accessories bringing you handmade celestial flyness, launching Monday 5/7 through Friday 5/11. See more photos from the collection.
--- “Luminary Sol” requires us to think of our bodies as a universe, challenging us to tap into our so(u)ls and behave like luminaries: radiating and vibrating, bringing our core golden energy on the surface of our skin through adornment. When we look good, we feel good. Our bodies are canvases of infinite possibilities. We have an opportunity to (re)create and be(come) who we are through dress and style. Share your sunshine this summer with Colored Girls Hustle's "Luminary Sol" accessories.
Adornment is a practice of honoring and loving our bodies, a radical act in a moment when the bodies of women, people of color and LGBT people are under attack. As a queer woman of color, adornment is an integral part of the practice of reclaiming my body and having it be my own. “Luminary Sol” is a way to share that practice with the world.
Taja Lindley, founder of Colored Girls Hustle speaking on the inaugural Luminary Sol summer collection. Online launch 5/7-5/11. New items posted on Etsy everyday for 5 days until all products are available online.
Luminary So(u)l ::
The sun is a luminary: a celestial body emitting light, providing Earth’s primary source of energy. It represents the ego, the self and its expression of personal power, pride, and creativity.
