What chilling looks like in Lusaka Backpackers and the nshima. It is the white element of the plate! The photo isn't the best, but give you an idea.

Day 5 - Chilling
Hey folks,
Today was a chilled day. I had a bit of a lie in & then sat by the pool in the morning. Dipped my feet in the pool and had my favourite beveridge the amazing Fanta. Seriously this fanta is amazing... like no other. You know with our fanta its really bubbly? Well this stuff is almost still, but tastes just like the fizzy stuff. So orange in colour and so sweet in taste! Might have to export some!
Got to meet Vincent today. He is a student at university, who is also a freelance photographer based in Lusaka. He told me I was like a walking art gallery and asked if he could take some photos of my tattoos... How amazing?! We went down to Levy junction and got a smoothie from one of the cafes, while there we were talking about dinner plans. The plan was firmed up as me getting to try nshima, so Vince had suggested a good place to go later on.
Back to Lusaka Backpackers for some more sunbathing and an unexpected dip in the pool. Fiona successfully broke this strange float device/random talking point thing from the pool so had to go get changed to sort it out. I decided that I would brave the pool too and it was awesome!!! I did manage to get burnt yesterday which wasn't so good!!
We met |Vince later and got a great tour of the city in a taxi, only to discover that this "great restaurant" was totally out the way but also totally shut! In addition to this it was off the main roads and into this kinda off the raider, 100% authentic Zambian feel. Unfortunately it was closed... and I was starving!! Vince made this situation better by standing in newly laid cement, which he instantly jumped back out matrix style!!
We ended up having dinner right around the corner from our place in Broads Backpackers. I tried the nshima and I've gotta say it was good. It's very heavy though, so I don't think I could eat a lot of it or eat it often. Then it was home to bed!
Very chilled day in Lusaka,
That's all folks!
:)x
Day 2
Good afternoon folks,
Hope all is good on the otherside of the world! I know I'm a day late with my blog as yesterday should have been day 2... but better late than never!!
Yesterday we arrived in Zambia. It was like maybe 7am but the sun was already scorching! We had a bit of a wait at the airport to get a taxi to the Backpackers, but eventually we got here. Checked into our room, got a wee freshening up and went out to see some places.
In our optimism we decided to walk down to the EduSport office, although got totally lost!! We basically walked the opposite direction and ended up heading towards the city centre- we got a taxi after that because it was so hot!!
Up on Burma Road is the Sport in Action office and the EduSport office. We visited both the offices and met some really cool people!! While at the Edusport office we went down to the market with one of the girls to get our Zambian sims sorted out and get some talktime. We also got some frittas and some samosas' down at the market. The frittas are like donuts, just Zambian style. They are like deep fried dough either made with baking powder or yeast and you add your on glucose to them. The samosas' were not spicy, but they were really tasty.
We had a little planning meeting in the office, trying to get a little program of volunteering opportunities for me which was cool and made everything seem a bit more real!
Everyone I have had the pleasure of meeting so far in Zambia has been super friendly. Everyone greets each other with a handshake and asks how you're doing and genuinely just seems interested.
We had dinner at the hostel last night and then sat with a cider chilling out watching the football. Amazing first day in Zambia meeting lots of cool people and then watching Chelsea win! :)
That's all folks.
:) x
