hey i didn't mean to disrespect anyone but i see people saying how this was a miracle and salvation and i can understand it was to some people. I know that it was shit i know that the dictatorship was awful and i'm not questioning that at all. I'm sorry to hear about your family I am. I truly am and I am sorry if i disrespected you or your family in any way. but it wasn't a peaceful perfect revolution as many paint it and i just wanted to say that. but yes happy holiday to you too and again i'm sorry if i have offended you. it wasn't my intention. i was sharing my family's history and saying that i don't particularly like the holiday because many refuse to even consider it wasn't as perfect as they picture it
It WAS peaceful. That’s the thing about it. It is considered one of the most peaceful revolutions in the world.
No one is denying the trauma it brought your family, as no one can deny the trauma it brought to ANYONE’S family. That isn’t the point. The point is dismissing the importance of the day, which I am starting to assume, is a bit far from what you imagine it was, because it got rough on your end. You’re entirely allowed--you’re entitled, actually--to feel bad for what happened to your family, but you gotta look at the bigger picture.
No, it wasn’t perfect. As a coup, it was a carefully planned action that took months to perform, and it brought salvation--yes, it brought salvation. What came after was a fucking mess, just ask anyone from Alentejo.
I don’t take it as an insult, not personally, I think it’s insulting to those who suffered, and I wouldn’t dare dismiss your family’s history. I am just asking you to consider the bigger picture, to put that experience into perspective.
