LUXE 💎 WEEKLY IDOL member introduction & soccer freestyle ( ref ) february 18, 2019

they run up to the set once the hosts call their name with obvious excitement. they cheer themselves on with energy, a picture perfect image of nervous rookies going on variety broadcast for the first time as a group. they’ve watched weekly idol before, everyone does. they know what to expect but at the same time they have no idea what to expect, which has a lot of members worried. mijoo especially is very pensive backstage, probably wondering if they’re about to throw their whole goddess image in the garbage. dabin, however, is confident. she knows the public loves the duality, though they’re usually harsher on girl groups, there’s nothing wrong with being funny. it’ll entertain their fans and if netizens have something bad to say about it well... so be it. they definitely can’t please everyone and there’s always a group of people who will have something bad to say about them, try to dictate how they should act.

it starts as shows usually start. they all get a few seconds to introduce themselves using their stage name, position in the group and any other quirks they can come up with. the hosts will make some comments, ask some questions, then they’ll move on to the next segment. “i’m xayah, luxe’s goddess of fire, main rapper and aegyo-filled maknae!” the last part is clearly a joke and to prove her point, she proceeds to make the obnoxious cute expressions weekly idol has ever seen. everyone is quick to call her out on it and she ends up fixing it up, proclaiming herself the cool maknae instead. 

coming up next is their hidden talent competition. they each had to come up with something they’re better at than most people, or if not most people, at least their other group members. it has to be somewhat impressive but as dabin says, if all else fails then they’ll make people laugh. it doesn’t really matter if it’s an amazing talent or not in the end, since weekly idol just loves when members make a fool of themselves for some cheap laughs. she doesn’t mind cheap laughs, but this time she’s aiming to show another side of herself. her running man episode sadly didn’t showcase much of her athletic abilities so she thinks it might be time to prove she’s more than just some funny airhead.

a member of the staff rolls a soccer ball onto the set, which dabin secures between her feet. she stretches her neck and her arms, as if showing off before she starts. she keeps it simple, not using a longboard as she once did for a trainee evaluation. she kicks it with her feet, her knees, onto her head where she balances it for a while, before letting it fall down her back where she catches it with another kick (please just watch the video i linked to save my bad description). she gets genuine applause once she’s done and goes back to her seat satisfied of what she’s shown.

‘After keeping all plans of their first comeback aside, Royal has finally decided to move things along. Luxe’s performances on the Samsung New Year Special brought them a lot of attention and most certainly gave them a lot of buzz. Positive or negative, every new comment under their performance videos only made them rise on the pages of famous websites and search engines. Using this to their advantage wouldn’t be too hard.

Their first comeback also means their first release as a 5-member group. Im Nayoung’s official stage name was officially confirmed to be ‘Zoe’ through an official statement by a Royal representative only a week ago. Together with the other 4 original members, the group will make their comeback with their mini-album ‘Fantasy’ on February 24th. This means there are a lot of things to get done and the girls should put their all into it.

The practice schedule will be completely focused on the final preparations for the album. Dance practice will start right away and be the biggest focus for the members. If they don’t have anything more important to do then they should probably be learning the choreography which will be thoroughly taught by Yoo Jaekyung and her fellow dancers. The songs that were given three months to learn should all be recorded on February 8th. Members will go into the studio in order of age to record their parts. When they aren’t recording, members are expected to be practicing.

As a solo schedule, Cheri will take part of the recording for ‘My Love From Another Star’ from February 2nd. She will be expected on set for 9 hours (7 to 4pm) to get her makeup and wardrobe done in the morning. Filming for her day scene will last from 10am to 3pm. After filming for the scene concludes, she will get cleaned up, return her costumes, and return to her idol schedules. The script for this scene will be mailed to her one week prior to filming. She will also get one hour of rehearsal with the lead actor before official filming starts.

To match with their concept, members will have to change their hairstyles according to the company’s orders. Those whose current hairstyle doesn’t match the one seen below will go together to the same salon on February 10th to get their hair done for their comeback.

On February 13th, a photo shoot will occur in a small set in the Gangnam district for both the photobook that’ll come along with the CD as well as the photocards. There will be two different sessions: one for the pure side of the album and another following their sexy concept. The photocards will follow the same pattern (use this photocard as an example and a darker version of it for its counterpart). When they aren’t being photographed, members are allowed to practice in a spot of the set that doesn’t get in the way of the staff or in the changing room. They won’t be explicitly told to do so and they should also avoid getting sweaty or ruining their makeup.

Finally, the music video for their title song will be filmed on February 15th and February 16th. A full film crew is provided by Royal, including camera staff, wardrobe and makeup/hair staff, lighting staff, catering crew, and a director. You may, at any time, ask for guidance from any of these members of the production. On the 15th, the first section of the where they pose in white (0:00-0:16) and dance scenes in the white outfits (as seen in 0:56 and 2:33) will be recorded. On the 16th, scenes with the light background (as seen in 0:19 and 0:28) and the brick wall (as seen in 1:42 and 3:17) will be recorded.

As the first variety appearance with the full group, Luxe will record an episode of Weekly Idol on February 18th. This will follow the events from TWICE’s part in Episode 228 which can be seen here. All mentions of debut should be changed to it being their first comeback, and any quotes and the performance of ‘Like Ooh-Ahh’ should be changed to ‘Confused’. Any other changes should be made accordingly (such as their personal introductions and showcased talents) to fit in with Luxe members. Luxe’s appearance will only be enough for half an episode, and the other half will be filmed by a different group. It should be also taken into account that the MCs will be the current ones: Lee Manseok, Shin Beomsu, and Ryu Seojun as the IC equivalents of Nam Changhie, Jo Seho, and Hwang Kwanghee. This episode will air on a Wednesday, February 27th.

On the very same day of the recording, February 18th, the first teaser will be released for their comeback on Luxe’s official social media.

As a special surprise to the fans and a tease on itself, all 5 members will come together to hold a Vlive in their dorm on February 19th. They are instructed not to spoil anything regarding their new album and help Zoe get used to how it works. Apart from that, the members are free to interact with the viewers however they’d like as long as they keep up with their image.

No matter how busy their month will be, nothing will beat February 24th. Luxe will have their debut stage on the same date as their album release on Inkigayo. They’ll get there a 6:30am as usual, but instead of staying until late for a live performance, they’ll pre-record it at 9:00am instead of having a rehearsal. The members will then prepare themselves for their showcase which will start at 6PM, the same time as the album release. Fans present will get to watch the MV for the first time in the audience, followed by a live performance of ‘Confused’. The MC this time will be the well-known Lee Jonghyuk. During the showcase, Luxe will also perform their debut song ‘I Feel Good’, ‘Luv Me’ and ‘Under The Street Lights’. The time in-between will involve the members explaining their title track and album as well as their concept, a profile introduction of each member, and then the showcase will end with a second performance of ‘Confused’.

On February 28th, Luxe will record their dance relay for ‘Confused’ to be uploaded on the same day during their time waiting for M!Countdown (you can use this to see how it works).

Music show promotions will last for a total of three weeks this time. Programs will begin pre-recording early in the morning and groups are expected to stay at the broadcasting station until the live broadcast takes place later in the day. Although music shows in real life follow varied recording schedules, for IC writing purposes, the schedule for every music show will follow this consistent pattern (except for February 24th):

06:20AM: at broadcasting station: basic first rehearsal on stage; no makeup, casual clothes.

06:45AM: head to salon: get makeup and hair done.

07:45AM: return to broadcasting station: eat breakfast, nap in dressing room/space.

09:00AM: dress rehearsal on stage; stage outfits, makeup on.

09:20AM: return to dressing room/space: rest, eat, nap.

11:00AM: final camera rehearsal on stage; stage outfits, makeup on.

11:15AM: greet senior artist groups at their respective dressing room/spaces, accompanied by a manager. you may not sleep during this time, up until the live broadcast.

07:00PM: live broadcast; when not performing, must stay in dressing room/space until the ending stage of the show.

08:00PM: line up in waiting room area to formally greet producers, director, and senior staff.

09:00PM: meeting time with fans who attended the recordings.

10:00PM: return to dressing rooms to clean up, change back into casual clothes.

11:00PM: arrive back at dorms.

You will gain +5 POINTS TO DISTRIBUTE AS YOU WISH, +3 DEBUT POINTS and +2 ACHIEVEMENTS for completing the written requirements explained on the idol tier page. As this is a song promotion month, one of your chosen achievements must be relevant to the above schedule and all required content should be written about activities listed on the above schedule for the month of February. Posting about March activities will not account for February points (more information for their March promotions will come on their March schedule). There is a capped maximum of five solos, sets of starters and/or partnered threads you may write to collect this month’s points.

To clarify, the only form that needs to be submitted at the end of the month is a verification form for your debut points and achievements. Any SP points earned can be collected as soon as you finish the requirement for them. time for you to shine

the month winds down into a matter of seconds before flashing lights and the ravenous crowd ready to devour them whole. she isn’t sure just how they’ve gotten to this point, but mijoo is more than happy to shoulder the burden in exchange of releasing the woes that take her members captive. while february hadn’t been the most peaceful of months for her, she makes the most of it. ( even if it meant keeping her distance from the one person she didn’t want to ) she does it because she knows it’s for the best, he made his choice -- it was time to make hers, right? he had sacrificed so much for her and mijoo, although kind at heart, was through and through stubborn when it came to her decisions and was adamant to use her time away from him ( purposeful time away ) to understand his choices and how they were meant for her benefit.

and while it had kept her focused on the tasks at hand, it was a hurt she had to shelf as she watches her members gather around, one by one ; watching their nerves come alit in their eyes, for most in favor of the glamour of the stage, and the excitement of getting back out there again. but for others, she can sense the fear that takes them whole and she knows that feeling well. wears it on her sleeve at times like this but never did she let it take a hold of her. which was why, her hand deftly slides into that of nayoung’s, a strong squeeze capturing the other’s attention -- a subtle i’m here, you know -- as mijoo steers the other from gazing from beyond the wings of the stage and at herself. ready to give the best peptalk as if her life depended on it, if need be.

sometimes, mijoo wishes she can cross her fingers and hope for the best. that in time, the better days will come and wash out the tiresome blues that take her away some days. the past few months are a blur of exhaustion, tiresome conflict and the ongoing scurry to do better, to be better, to try and try again until everything was absolutely perfect. it’s been a rough few months for all of them that the expectations for this month are as high as the heavens that it’s with little hope that all of this can be done within one month was near impossible but by the end of it -- mijoo thinks, maybe miracles do exist.

( that hard work really can overcome the cracks in their foundation )

they’re a six-membered force cut down to five, exchanged and traded, and berated by the public only to return again in the midst of turmoil and the devastation of a group too dear to her heart. she shouldn’t care. to the public eye, it shouldn’t even faze her. ( but it does, so much that mijoo has to force herself to not; she’s not supposed to expose herself to such a scandal, spent years being so, so, so careful not to that this hurdle is a little too hard for her to bear.

it doesn’t help that she feels completely helpless ( read: useless ) when rome makes all these decisions on his own for the sole purpose to protect her and her dreams while doing nothing to save himself from the chaos. 

( so she thinks, how the devils toy with her mind, bringing her deeper and deeper into despair that even the tears she cries to make them stop do little to ease them this time ) 

she hates this, hates this so much that she tells herself it’s better to do without it.

so she locks it away for a moment, calls rome at the earliest convenience to tell him that she can’t do this this close to the comeback. she loves him, he knows this, but she also loves her career, too.

( he also knows this, all too well )

she strays a little, what used to be daily calls become texts every few days because she can’t afford the distraction, no matter how much her heart aches with the guilt of january, and the size of jupiter weighs it down. the guilt is there very much by the following days leading up to the showcase that mijoo tosses and turns with her options, the invites to the showcase -- another 4 golden tickets to be spent -- are ready to be given. she weighs her options, teeth pulling at her bottom lip as she types her messages.

flashing lights, this is what she wants. the roar of applause, it’s what she feels in her veins as she steps onto that stage among four others ; the tide of their future riding on the performance that lay before them. she doesn’t realize how much she needs this until fingers press to her heart and she’s crossing the stars, voice a startling quake in the midst of a lone piano.

perhaps, this is what she needed.

a healthy distraction from the storminess her personal life has taken. she takes it in and reigns the deepest of her feelings and shelves it for a rainy day, rainier than the chilly days seoul has taken this february.

holed in the practices room for the better part of the month prepares them for the onslaught of busy days. that when the day of their comeback falls upon them, mijoo is barely able to catch her breath as they’re shoved from one taping to the next.

piled into their van and sped from one end of seoul to another in order to make it in time for a quick dress rehearsal before the show at six that evening. it’s too much, too fast, all at once -- and everything in between but it keeps her mind busy; keeps mijoo from feeling complacent and succumbing to the guilt that had been eating at her since the end of january.

and while confused was the least of her sentiments, her heart felt as stormy as the song they were able to sing.

but she’s branded by confidence, by the utmost trust that the ones who loved her were there with her to support her, despite the troubles that may come by the decisions she makes today, mijoo wishes for the best. ( because that’s all she can do now, whether or not this was worth it was a conversation for a different day because today was their first comeback as a new group, nothing else should matter )

leather and latex the brand as they slip into their battle armor for the the season to come, mijoo can feel the nerves eating at her. but a single breath dashes them, feeling the arms that wrap around her and the girls as they all jump collectively around nayoung; all smiles, all laughter. all anticipating for the world to collapse at their feet, all finally happy at the new addition to their team.

in mere seconds, they were about to unveil her to the world.

this was luxe -- and of course, “luxe is love, luxe is life!” it’s a scrimmage of smiles, and nerves, but they all get there -- taking their places on the same stage, together as luxe.

the showcase begins and much like august had been, her heart is thundering a mile a second. a rapid spurt of nerves that cause her fingers to tingle as the lights dim. the dark is deafening and it’s only when the lights spin, cornering each of them in it’s glow, does she feel the warmth of the stage welcoming her. the past turmoil over their futures gone, it was time to look to the present.

while dabin is not one to complain about useless things, she has to admit that the filming of this music video is boring in comparison to their debut one. they’re confined into rather small sets with little to do other than stare directly into the camera, look appealing and dance for the group shots. she feels trapped, not to mention she isn’t the biggest fan of the song in the first place. still, as an idol you don’t always get to do exactly what you want and she’s learning that the hard way. before she gains enough experience and creativity to make her own music or give input... she can’t really do anything to change it. and the song isn’t bad, it just doesn’t exactly fit her taste.

everyone is keeping busy, with one of the girls filming her individual close up shots and some practicing the choreography on the side. dabin was with them just a second earlier but left to get a bottle of water, not to mention the staff clearly told them not to dance too hard in case they ruin their hair and makeup. she does notice seolhyun nearby but at first she walks right past, returning after a bit to sit next to her. “unnie,” she says with a brief nod to greet her. but as soon as she turns away to keep her childish game going and ignore her, there’s an uneasy feeling in the pit of her stomach.

“look, i don’t know what happened between the two of you and i don’t care. whatever it is, fix it.”

their manager’s words come to mind again and the rapper closes her eyes. they’re definitely right, it can’t go on like this forever. they’re members of the same group, share the same living spaces. they’re allowed not to become best friends but they at least should talk it out. she should act like an adult for once. “look, i’m... sorry. for what i did.”

their previous title rack wasn’t so hard to learn for dabin despite the heels. she’s gotten a lot better at dancing in them over the past year in preparation for her group’s debut, fully aware of their sexy concept. she might have been chosen for her girl crush qualities, she still needs to appeal to their image so they keep a cohesive look. while she knows that she still struggles with it, feels as if she’s forcing the sexiness instead of just... letting it come naturally. i feel good was pretty laid-back, a party song of sorts, while confused sound is a lot more mature and sensual. so is the choreography, with which dabin isn’t the only one having trouble with. it’s not so much the movements that cause her problems, but how she looks while executing them.

jaekyung is very strict when it comes to the image they display on stage and she’s spent weeks criticizing every single detail of dabin’s dancing. while it definitely helped, she needs a new perspective, a different pair of eyes. that’s why she goes to her roommate. nayoung is the most skilled dancer between the five of them, as well as the most experienced and as far as dabin knows, she can handle pretty much any kind of concept brilliantly. they grab a small bite after schedules that evening and head straight back to royal after, with dabin almost sprinting down the halls trying to spend the surplus amount of energy she has left.

“how did you find the recording?” weekly idol has been their first variety show as a group and she knows it must have been quite something for nayoung. “if you’re too tired to dance though, i’ll let you watch and you can comment~” she teases the older while tying her hair in a high ponytail.  “you’ve got two hours to make me as sexy as you can, alright?”

LUXE 💎 COMEBACK SHOWCASE real outfit inspiration: hyejeong february 24, 2019

the company warned them that the next couple of weeks would be intense and after today she finally believes them. from pre-recording their inkigayo comeback stage to running straight to the showcase venue to get prepared they haven’t had a second to breathe since the early hours of the morning. she can’t remember when she last ate too, which might be a problem once her sugar level drops to a dangerous low but she stands strong for now, too caught up by the moment to really notice all that’s going on around her.

the girls are all gathered backstage, arms around each other forming a circle with nayoung placed in the middle of it. dabin is the one to initiate the group hug, shouting a “happy debut to our zoe!” before closing the space between her and them in a warm and restless embrace. the level of excitement is through the roof and while she used to imagine how nayoung could be feeling when they performed in jeju, it was nothing in comparison to tonight. the people who came to see them are their fans, their people, and they’re the ones who need to accept the new member in the luxe family. the rapper has no doubt she will fit right in because what’s there not to like about her?

as they’re getting their some touch ups before being called on stage she takes a good look at each member and for the first time since october she doesn’t feel the empty space left by dawon and jiwon. the five of them have been training for a few months together already and this mini album is entirely theirs. that’s probably what makes it easier. singing i feel good with zoe was strange, it left a bitter taste in her mouth every time someone else sang sona’s lines. but confused is different.

“luxe is love, luxe is life!” dabin doesn’t recall who came up with this but they always do it before performing and over time it became sort of their lucky charm. she hopes the fans will appreciate the song live more than how the mv makes it look. to be perfectly honest they could very well have skipped the viewing since the mv is basically them just... performing the song, with some added close-ups and the weird all white intro.

her position for this comeback song is mostly dance. her lines are minimal and they’re all towards the end of the song, not that she minds much since she gets to rap more in the other ones and they’ll still be performing i feel good. it can’t be about her all the time and rapping can’t always be the main focus of their songs, she understands that very well. it’s just... hard to go from so much center presence to so little. at least she gets to showcase more of her dancing this time around even if confused’s choreography isn’t exactly the hardest to execute, the main difficulty being the heels.

they might be singing about some unexistent boy, dabin only sees dawon when the whole time. the way they parted, without a single explanation... it doesn’t make any sense and is about as frustrating at it could get for someone like dabin who’s not only inexperienced but has a hard time dealing with emotions in the first place. if dawon gave her a sign, if she was just honest about the reason why she left so suddenly without so much as a goodbye. maybe it meant nothing to her at all. dabin used to think they were just good friends messing around, never really thought it was anything serious until she lost her. she’s been trying to convince herself that the singer’s departure has nothing to do with them but as time passes she’ll less and less certain.

one could say she’s very confused...
