“Hey Cass.”  Ellana braced herself for more yelling, but apparently Cassandra had moved on to the quiet, cold phase of her rage. That was always a lot worse. “I want you here at the office. Tonight.” “Tonight? But-” Ellana cast a glance over her shoulder at the bed and then, furious with herself, turned back toward the window. Wanting another night with Solas was not a good excuse for sticking around in Boranehnan longer than necessary. “I have already told Solas I want those items back at his university’s lab for testing as soon as possible,” Cass said. “Once their age has been confirmed, then we will consider whether to publish. Not before. I refuse to rely on a single point of data provided by the Tevinters. They cannot be trusted after this debacle.” “I agree with you, obviously. I just - Cass it’s already well past noon. By the time Solas’ grad student gets down here to pick us up and we drive back to Lydes - I don’t even know if I could get a train that late.” Ellana held her breath.

Jeanne interlaced her fingers with Gaius’s, and slowly led him across the room to where Andor stood. Gaius followed with only the slightest hesitation. Without releasing his hand, she used her other to reach up to cradle Andor’s neck as she pulled him in for a deep, luxuriating kiss. “Jeanne …” Gaius tentatively whispered her name. “What in the hells are you doing?” “I am doing what I feel is best for the Inquisition," she said through a wry smile. Her left hand slipped down casually to intertwine with Andor’s, matching her right with Gaius’s, as her shawl fell from her shoulders and revealed her lavender slip. She led both men to her bed, where she released their hands and sat, beckoning them to join her.

Summary:

He slips into a cafe to pass the time. It is an alluring place on the water where lilac lanterns spill light on lovers and assassins alike. In the distance, something bright catches his eye. Two felines, perched side by side on the base of a pillar that overlooks the canals. One of them is such a vivid white he swears it’s glowing in the afternoon sun.

By day, Solas investigates an irregularity in the Veil in the Streets of Coin and encounters a spirit cat. By night, Lavellan dreams of Treviso.

Or when I’m dead. But definitely not tonight.”

Dorian leaned across the table, suddenly grasping her free hand in his own. Ellana, taken aback by the gesture, snapped to attention. “We have a find here, Ellana. A real find. And if all goes as I hope it does, you and Solas will be the ones to bring it to light. Ah!” Dorian released her as he directed his gaze above her head. “And here’s the man of the hour.” Ellana was still trying to process Dorian’s words when she felt the unmistakable sensation of a kiss being placed on the top of her head just as casually as if it were something that happened every day of her life. It was a completely foreign and lovely idea, and one that made her freeze entirely, her eyes wide. She could feel Solas hovering behind her and realized that he was similarly motionless. Dorian, his gaze darting between the two of them, wore a smile that stretched across his whole face and seemed to Ellana to be practically screaming “I knew it!”

Ellana’s eyes were open and fixed in horror on the hand she held in front of her face. Her left palm shone as if illuminated by green flames, the light flickering and phasing, catching on every surface of the room. She took in a deep breath and expelled it in a sob just as Solas’ mind finally caught up to his eyes. “What is happening?” he asked her frantically. “My hand! It’s burning me,” she choked out. “It’s like my skin is tearing itself open! I - I can’t stop it! I can’t -”  She heaved in huge, dry gulps of air, on the verge of hyperventilation.  Solas caught her wrist in his fingers and held her steady as she winced against his touch. “Breathe,” he told her. “I’m. Trying,” she forced out in between sobs. “I have you. Now breathe.”

Ellana did as he asked, doing her best to appear as casual as possible as she angled her body to hide Solas from anyone who might walk past them on the quiet street. She sneaked a quick look down at him and saw he had removed a screwdriver from the little pouch. Her eyes went wide. “What are you doing,” she hissed. “Only a moment more.”   Ellana turned back to watch the street and, sure enough, she heard the quiet engine on the moped turn over just a minute later. She stared, aghast, at Solas as he stood. “Solas.” “Hmm?” He placed the little pouch of tools back in his work bag and dusted his hands off on his trousers.  “Did you just hotwire this moped?” “I was something of a … a rebel. In my youth.” He said it with an absolutely irresistible smirk that told her he was entirely impressed both with himself and with her reaction.
