I want to highlight a moment from the final scene, when the team comes back from the mission and Lucy and Wyatt see each other after that phone call, because I feel it’s important. So, as soon as the lifeboat lands, Wyatt immediately takes the first steps on the ladder, ready to welcome Lucy, probably to talk to her, and as soon as her head pops out from the lifeboat his heart eyes are all over the place:

And as she smiles at him and 100% fails to hide her own doey eyes...

... he steps forward, ready to reach for her and help her. He’s so ready to do so he’s literally breathless, thank you matt for this, i really needed to be murdered again. Then she turns and sees Jessica, and her smile fades, because she wasn’t expecting to see her there and wasn’t ready for it. Wyatt follows her gaze and after giving a brief look to Jessica his eyes returns on her, and through them you can read another whole conversation: he’s thinking “Oh my god, this is such a mess, how do I do this right? How do I fix this? How do I show her how much I care? Am I allowed to? Do I have the right to? She needs to know how much I’m hurting for what I’ve caused.” and you can see how guilty and overwhelmed he feels.

But the thing I was interested in the most, and that I wanted to point out, is that even after Lucy sees Jessica, even though Wyatt is fully aware of it and of Jessica’s presence behind him, he still reaches forward a second time, without esitation or uncertainty. Because no matter what, he needs to check on her, he needs her to be fine. He just needs her, and he can’t brush that feeling under the mat. It’s instinct. He only stops and draws back when Flynn steps out of the lifeboat and drags Lucy away. And this is important, because it comes from a place of everlasting partnership and support. It doesn’t matter that they can’t be together anymore and that they’re all hurting. Wyatt and Lucy will always be partners, and will always be there to support each other. The urge to take care of each other is always tangible. They are best friends, and nothing can change that, not even Jessica’s presence. Their bond is just too strong (timeless account would call it “unbreakable”, ahem) to simply fade away. They’re still going to be always there for each other. They will always want the other to be happy, regardless of what that means. And that’s not going anywhere, Jessica or not Jessica.

The Pool Scene as a First Kiss?

so I discussed this with some of my goats, and I figured I’d share it with y’all. I talked about this in my other meta how the pool scene doesn’t really feel like a first kiss. It feels like a kiss between two people who’ve been kissing for a while. I can’t imagine our Lil cinnamon roll Lucy Preston being so not nervous about a first kiss with this man she’s been in love with for so long. It just happens and they’re so happy and there’s no nerves, nothing. Believe me, I LIVE FOR THIS SCENE. But it also raises questions about was this really the first kiss??

I don’t think it was.

And no I don’t mean Bonnie and Clyde. I mean a scene at the end of Darlington where this moment:

Comes to a head. We don’t have a scene with Lucy and Wyatt at the end of 2x02 which always rang odd to me, but what if there is one that got deleted? What if at the end they run into each other or something and that’s when we get a first kiss full of nerves and excitement. I mean with how close they came to kissing in the trunk of that car... you don’t just leave things there. But when they do kiss they both get worried that it was a heat of the moment thing, but when Lucy gets up on stage, she’s tired of hiding and running so she just sings it all out to him, and all doubts go out the window.

This could be why the pool scene feels a little more natural and easy because they both know what they want and the stress and weight of confessing feelings is passed and so nothing else is left but to jump right in (I’ll never get tired of pool puns).

So why was it deleted (if it in fact exists)? Well either it plays with what the writers said yesterday about “progressing the romance too fast” or when they had the filming issues with the pool scene and decided to go with the guest room scene as the final cut, it made the Darlington kiss obsolete.

I have high hopes that there is some truth to this and we might get another deleted scene from the end of Darlington with Lucy and Wyatt. (Kissing optional I just want them being awakward.)

I need to talk about this scene because I have a lot of emotions

Lucy’s first reaction is self defense because why would it be Wyatt. As far as she knows he died weeks ago. And her mother and Emma are crazy Rittenhouse. I bet Wyatt taught her the self defense

Then she turns around and it’s definitely not what she expected. The range of emotions that pass over her face in seconds. She goes from angry and then when she processes who she’s looking at she’s shocked because she spent six weeks silently mourning him while trying to trick Rittenhouse. Meanwhile Wyatt just looks elated like a kid on Christmas because he knew she was alive. He knew she couldn’t be dead.

Her smile gets me everytime. We haven’t seen her smile for real like this since their talk of possibilities. And Wyatt is just soaking her in. Because like I already said she’s alive, she’s here, with him and she’s smiling at him and god he hasn’t seen that smile in forever and he missed it. Because while he believed she was alive he had no way to be sure till just now. And I love how they’re so absorbed in each other that they don’t bother to move their arms.

Her little head shake before “you’re alive?” Like she can’t believe he’s actually right in front of her.

“You’re alive” @the-suriel-deserved-better put it best when she said that she loved that Lucy was asking a question and Wyatt’s was a statement. Because he’d never stop fighting to find her and wouldn’t let anyone tell him she could be dead. And his smile during this whole scene just gives me life

They’re so relieved to see each other that they literally just take a second to drink each other in before hugging. And their arms stay up until the very last second.

I think this might be my favorite hug so far. Because at this point(even if they won’t admit it) they know that they love the other person and I feel like this is the first one that they both go into it completely aware of their feelings. I can’t get enough of Wyatt’s eyes squeezing shut as they hold onto each other with everything they have.

“We’ll never get back the people that we love, won’t we?”

“Only if we give up hope. I know somehow, some way, we’ll save the people we love.” 

Some thoughts on this exchange between Lucy and Flynn. 

So obviously a lot of people interpret or hope for a romantic angle on these interactions between these two. And I’ve been inclined to think that Flynn does have some level of romantic interest in Lucy. BUT. That might not be the case, or it could be that Flynn does have feelings for Lucy, but views her as unattainable because of her relationship to Wyatt. Because Flynn also has insight into Lucy’s future via the journal. So if Lucy is going to end up with Wyatt (which she is) Flynn likely knows this. 

I know that this particular conversation was focused on Lucy’s lost sister and Flynn’s family. But the broader journey for her through the episode was her growing distance from Wyatt. So her statement about “never get[ting] back the people that we love” could apply additionally to Wyatt. I would even say it’s likely that on some level Wyatt was also on her mind with that statement, even if just as a stray thought about how she lost her sister, her mother and now Wyatt. 

And Flynn’s reassurance could apply to that as well. He has know way of knowing whether or not he gets his family back or she gets her sister back. The journal doesn’t say. But if Flynn knows that Lucy and Wyatt get back together, he could be trying to offer her subtle hope in regards to that (while not wanting to reveal too much about her future).

I wanted to pay special attention to the last Lyatt scene in 2x07, specifically the moment Wyatt attempts to comfort Lucy, because that moment wrecks me. It's almost as if comforting her provided comfort for himself, as well: the way he exhales before reaching for her, it's a clear sign of how hard it's been for him to hold back and not to make physical contact with her since 2x03. The very idea of comforting her and feeling her under his touch, just like the old times, is a relief. Because being Lucy's safe place is all he ever wanted to be and everything he misses so much that it kicks the air out of his lungs, and seeing her in that state is unbearable for him, so much that he doesn't hesitate at all to place his hands around her shoulders. Everytime I think about that gesture and how natural it looks for him, all their hypothetical life as an established, solid couple, that's been together for years now, flashes before my eyes like a comet. I swear, I can basically touch pictures of them, being in a stable relationship and perfectly knowing how to comfort the other when they need it. It looks as If that gesture was a recurring thing between the two of them, as if they had done that more times than they can count or remember. It looks incredibly natural and intimate. This is after all, the very core of their relationship: supporting each other in all the occasions and being the shoulder they can lean on when they need one, which comes as the most natural thing in the world, thanks to that deep empathy and understanding that they inspire each other when they are together. So intimate that for Lucy is just too much, and she has to pull away. More of that intimacy would bring back all the feelings and the memories she has tried so hard to brush under the mat. She wants to forget the reasons why she misses him so much, but he won't let her. And I can’t help but think that all those times that his arms have represented her safe place most likely started to play like a movie in her mind, but in particular this one:

The more she tries to forget, the harder she falls for him, and remembering everything that's been taken away from her - from them - is more than she can bear. So she forces her self to stand up and support herself on her own. And the sorrow on both their faces after she pulls away, speaks volume about how nostalgic and in pain they feel. Abby and Matt delivered it perfectly. That said, I need them to launch themselves in each other’s arms and hold on as tight as they can. Supporting and comforting each other like they always used to.

Yall I have positivity for sale today. I feel so positive about Lyatt and this whole Jessica thing. I don’t feel threatened by her or anyone else in any kind of way. Lucy and Wyatt are in love. Like head over heels. And as soon as Wyatt will realize how much he has changed and that things with Jessica just can’t work anymore, he will embrace his character development  and 100% commit to the best version of himself, to a new way to deal with the ghosts of his past, to his new feelings and ultimately realize that Lucy represents his future. And at that point Lucy will have realized that she can count on herself, that she’s strong enough to endure pretty much anything and will be ready to witness Wyatt choosing her over everything else, allowing herself to open up without the fear she felt before and giving them a chance. Isn’t it beautiful? *-* Let me distribute free hugs and rainbows to all of my ship-mates.

Ok, everybody keep calm. So, pretty much everyone thought that Wyatt and Jessica were about to divorce in this reality, and in fact, that’s what’s happening. BUT, if you have read the advanced, spoiler free review, you will know that Wyatt will take a choice with which many won’t agree, and I think I know what that is. Wyatt is not going to sign those papers for divorce. Wyatt will try to make it work and convince Jessica to give him another chance. And before people freaks out about this, I invite you to keep calm and think rationally about it.  Because it makes sense. And I understand why he’s doing it. I don’t think we should be mad about it. Everything we know about Wyatt and the kind of person he is, is in line with this kind of decision. The fact is, as we already established and as it was confirmed by the authors, Wyatt idealized and romanticized their marriage during those long 6 years Jessica has been dead. From the sneak peek, it’s pretty evident that he doesn’t recall/realize how much they used to fight or how fragile their relationship already was. He doesn’t remember that. Therefore, after having spent 6 years blaming himself for he death, living in this all-consuming guilt, and having attempted to bring her back inspite of all the troubles he knew he was getting himself into, it’s pretty natural that he wishes to save this marriage. Because in fact, they are still married. Wyatt is in love with Lucy, hell YEAH. But this doesn’t mean that everything he used to feel for his wife flew out of the window. He’s being coherent with what he’s been feeling for years. This is good. Because, in the attempt to save his relationship with Jessica he will spend time with her, and he will realize how different their marriage was from what he remembered, and how huge is the distance between the person he was and the person he is now. He already couldn’t remember objectively their marriage. Now they’re both different persons, who grew in different directions because they literally lived different lives for a while. And this is so important. This NEEDS to happen. And I don’t blame Wyatt for not immediately giving up on a relationship that defined him for so long and that to him was so important. This is just not who Wyatt Logan is.

What is the one thing that no one has been taking into consideration vis-a-vis Lucy, Wyatt, Jessica and all the bunker shenanigans?

The passage of time in the bunker itself.

We, the audience, have been watching this drama unfold over the course of almost two months.  But that is not the same amount of time that has passed in the bunker.  

I’m going to posit that the elapsed bunker time from the end of Hollywoodland, to the end of Mrs. Sherlock Holmes, is about two weeks at most. That might even be generous.

Hear me out:

I’m going to stipulate first that we can reasonably assume the passage of time in the present is concurrent with the amount of time the team spends in the past. 

Flynn’s arrival in the bunker occurs fairly early in the day after the team has arrived home from 1941; there’s sunshine streaming through the window above the industrial fan in Wyatt and Lucy’s final scene in Hollywoodland, and it isn’t full dark when we see Wyatt find Jessica. 

She’s early in her shift when he arrives at the bar she works at (bars do not take inventory deliveries late in the day) and she agrees to meet up with him later that evening.  In between, Lucy finally gets a hold of him, and Lucy, Rufus and Flynn depart for Salem. The team is in Salem for probably about 18 hours. The hanging-turned-riots occurred late at night in full darkness.  The team arrives back at the bunker where Wyatt has brought Jessica. 

When we pick up with the Kennedy mission, an indeterminate amount of time has passed, but it’s probably no more than a day and a half, two days max. Lucy’s arm wound is still very fresh, but modern medicine would have taken care of any 18th century germs she picked up fairly quickly. The entirety of episode 5 takes place over the course of 8-10 hours, while the Lifeboat is charging and Agent Christopher is missing. 

Episode 6 picks up relatively soon thereafter as well; Agent Christopher’s encounter with Carol and her goon is still pretty recent as evidence by the state of her facial injuries, and she’s had some time to plan the Rittenhouse raid, but clearly not a lot.  The raid itself, and the concurrent mission in San Antonio, take no more than a day. 

Episode 7 picks up the very next morning, and once again, the Time Team is in and out of their mission lickety-split.  Where we pick up next week is still TBD.

Now, I was a Journalism major because I was told there would be no math, but even by my math, it seems clear that in show time, we’re looking at a VERY compressed timeline for this season.
