As the wheels of the plane slowed to a stop all that was running through your head was how much of a mistake this could be. Moving to the other side of the world just because you can, just because you needed to get away. Was it a good idea? I guess only time will tell.
Getting up from the cramped seat you looked towards your friends sat around you. Still in disbelief they dropped everything this week to help you settle in. Although they were all slightly older, jobs rather than education. They could just take the week off, it's harder to do with your studies.
Chuckling at the thought of the previous conversation you had with your head of year, when you had originally decided to spontaneously move to Japan in the middle of the year. You're lucky you got a place at a high school out here.
Dragging your small handheld suitcase through the busy airport you ended up being channelled by your taller friends. Being only 5’3 was a problem in busy places, most people towered over you and the amount of times you have been swallowed by a crowd is kind of scary.
However you loved your height, in fact it made you love the sport that held your heart even more. Volleyball was known for having lots of tall players, you can’t disagree that your height put you at a disadvantage. However you loved the extra challenge, always striving for higher jumps, stronger serves, proving that height isn’t everything.
That became more apparent when you got scouted for England. Not under 19’s like most teenagers your age, but the actual England Women's squad. You were to be trained up to overtake the current captain when she retires, and that's what you had been doing for the past year.
You hadn’t actually played a game for England yet, just trained with them in secret. You missed the thrill of the court. The adrenaline that you got from hitting a spike through 3 blockers, or just digging up a spike that someone was sure they would make the point with. You lived for it.
Due to you training so often with England it meant quitting your old team. You had captained them for 2 years and you had loved every moment. Most people thought you were too young to captain, however on the court you had just as much maturity and experience as the older members. Which is what drew England's coaches to you.
Getting swept up in the memory for a second you almost ran into someone head on. Luckily your friend Kim pulled you out the way before it was too late.
‘You should really concentrate when you walk through busy places’ She sighed, steering you through the last of the crowd and out into the car park.
‘Yeah well i got caught up thinking about my old team…’ You respond smiling softly at the memories.
Kim knew just by looking at your demeanour that this was the best decision for you, being in Japan would help you move on. It's what you needed. Luckily right now you were thinking about the good, but soon the bad memories will flood back and hopefully being across the world will help them stay out of your mind.
You shook your head to snap back to reality as you watch your other friends walk up to you.
‘So where are you living again?’ Charlotte asked a glint of excitement in her eyes. You could swear your friends were more excited than you to be here.
‘The Miyagi Prefecture… it's more of a countryside area, which I figured would be better than the city. Plus would be more like home…’ You thought back to the pictures you looked at of the house, your school. It was a stunning area. You couldn’t wait.
‘And what was the school called again?’ Sophie followed on as you called for the taxi. Hesitating you checked your notes...
So i decided instead of an event for my 300 i’m gonna work on something different, that i have never really considered before... however i got a good idea :) Hehe
