This weekend was the Leipzig book fair and I got to listen to and meet some wonderful people and because I also know some wonderful people in the fantasy business, I got invited to the exclusive Hobbit Presse party. Nils Westerboer, who has written one of the most amazing German scifi books (period. I don't know any other German scifi book that even comes close) won the award for best fantasy book at the book fair, which made me really happy (I met him for the first time and got his book when he won the fantasy book price of the city of Wetzlar last year). At some point early this year, he followed me on facebook - I think because he followed a few people from Wetzlar and saw that I am friends with them and he remembered that I was part of the shenanigans. So that was already a nice surprise.
And it was so nice to be there for both award ceremonies and to have read the book in between them to know how deserved it was. And the event last night was wonderful, too. Lots of food, drinks paid for by the publisher :D and a lot of like minded readers, writers, critics and translators to chat with. And when we all started to leave, Nils offered a hug and it made me so happy because it was out of the blue and we hadn't even chatted that much. But it was such a nice end to a wonderful evening.
Long story short, if you understand German, ready Lyneham. It's really, really good! And the author is a wonderful human being.
