favorite moments from "burning down the house," stop making sense (jonathan demme, 1984)
from 'Talking Heads: The Band & Their Music' by David Gans (1985)
I really like when he said this
uh-oh, a drawing of my favorite band comes to town
Jerry Harrison doesn't get nearly the amount of love he deserves for his dancing, it's so fucking cute istg
Stop Making Sense (1984)
I actually started this piece before the announcement, but since the cat’s well and truly out of the bag RE the upcoming A24 4K re-release of the film, there’s never been a better time to share. This drawing started out as a fun, pressure free side project, and eventually spawned an entire side foray you’ll see in the next posts!
I love the textures achieved here with the mixed medium- cardboard really lent itself to the otherworldly structure of the big suit, and the neon pencils provide great contrast to the industrial watercolour.
Talking Heads ❃ This Must Be The Place (Naive Melody) Home, is where I want to be, pick me up and turn me round I feel numb, born with a weak heart, guess I must be having fun
I finally got around to watching Stop Making Sense last night, and I don't see enough people talk about Lynn Mabry and Ednah Holt, the backup singers.
Not only do they breathe life into classics from Talking Heads' catalogue, but it's very clear they're both having the time of their lives on stage. Their presence is absolutely infectious, and it's so hard not to smile any time the camera focuses on them.
They had the chance to perform with a great band and they seized every second of it. They are the stand outs for me
