For the first time in nearly a century, you can see an uninterrupted, sweeping view of the western façade of Grand Central Terminal. Spanning an entire city block, this impressive view of Grand Central will be visible until the new One Vanderbilt building starts to rise above ground later this year. Photographer Lynn Saville’s new Lightbox photography exhibit in Grand Central Terminal’s West Dining Concourse captures this unique moment at 42nd Street and Vanderbilt Avenue. Visiting multiple times at dawn, midday, and dusk, from different heights in nearby buildings and on the ground, Saville skillfully captured the changing light across the western face of the terminal, and the humans that activate the space during quiet moments of everyday life and at classic New York City rush hour, re-imagining the everyday environment as a cinematic film set.
