i feel like that last part is so important. accepting your past, your flaws and acknowledging your goals are all things that we need to do in order to become stronger versions of ourselves.

My favorite lyric of all time is "you are what you love, not who loves you" from Save Rock And Roll by Fall Out Boy and to me it means a lot since my dad isn't the nicest if people. So to me it means your family/friends/loved ones doesn't define you, you define yourself and that's really comforting to me

"They're trying to eat me, blood running down their chin, and I know that I could fight or I could let the lion win." Migraine has been really important to me lately. A few months ago I found myself with a "Migraine", with stressors beyond my control. I have been battling depression for several years now, and I had a day of crisis and attempted suicide. I'm doing better now, but this song is good for days where my mind is relentlessly violent. If I remember it, the fight in me feels renewed.

migraine is such an important song and i feel like it’s an acknowledgement of the existence of a mental illness, and the awareness of the two paths that are possible for someone in that position to take. and i’m begging you, don’t let the lion win. i hope this song will keep helping you, friend.

"We're driving toward the morning sun (i always hear it as sun but others might like son better) where all your blood is washed away and all you did will be undone". I get really anxious and this line helps me to have hope and not dwell too much on the little things. Like it reminds me that i'm not as bad as my brain tells me i am sometimes and that things will be okay soon

yeah, definitely! hearing it as sun just makes me think of truce, you know? the fact that you can start over each day and that the scars on your body, the mess in your mind don’t necessarily have to define who you are going to be in the future.

I really love seeing different peoples' perspectives on TOP lyrics. As a person of Christian faith, they're probably the best expression I have found for reconciling my faith with my mental illness. What I love, though, is that there is a theme throughout several songs that encourages you to apply your own meaning as you experience them. Kitchen Sink is probably one of the songs that best presents this idea, and it's amazing to me how they open their music up in this way.

i know! this is also why i love doing those lyrics talk: they allow people from different backgrounds and different faiths to talk about their favourite lyrics and why they love them - i have seen so many different interpretations, and all of them are beautiful and so valid?? this is what makes these songs so rich and interesting

My favourite lyrics are from Taxi Cab by Twenty One Pilots: "We're driving toward the morning, son Where all your blood is washed away and all you did will be undone."

It's a line that gets me every single time tbh. I'm a Christian and it reminds me that no matter what I've done or will do, no matter what hell I've been through, I'll always come out on the other side and see the light of day. That all the darkness washes away. It gives me hope when I otherwise wouldn't have any.

Taxi Cab is one of my favourite songs from them. i understand that these lines might most definitely be about Christian faith as tyler sees it, but i guess that i take it differently as an atheist (in no way am i saying that your view is invalid, btw!! it’s probably closer to tyler’s original intention than mine) those last lines of taxi cab seem so final and almost.. eerie to me. because he just thought he was dead but he ends up alive, sitting in a coffin, driving towards the morning. i just found something i’d said about it before which i found interesting:

"we're driving towards the morning sun where all your blood is washed away and all you did will be undone" is such a beautiful line, both how it sounds spoken and the meaning of it. i struggle with feeling unnecessarily guilty & anxious about small things quite often and that line always manages to calm me down and reassure me that by tomorrow morning it'll all be okay and cleared from my thoughts for the day ("undone"). [also it feels weird doing this off anon tbh]

taxi cab is like… one of my all-time favourites off self titled because it’s so raw and doesn’t try to hide anything and i agree with you on that line?? “all your blood is washed away” just makes me think of, like you said, unnecessary guilt that might plague you and drag you down but the morning will wash it all away and make things okay again?? (though i do believe that according to their old website it’s “we’re driving towards the morning, son” but idk) but yes you are absolutely right

I can't just choose one lyric but i really like the run and go. "You'll have to watch me struggle from several rooms away, but tonight i need you to stay." Idk, it makes me feel less lonely.

the “i need you to stay” especially gets me because it sounds like pleading, like weakness. i would never ask for someone to stay because i dont want to sound whiny, you know? i love this line because it goes from “you’ll have to watch me suffer and not be able to do anything about it in the future, but right now please keep company to my mind.” i think that’s a very interesting line? because people that love us always see us go through tough things (and same with people we love!!) but are not always able to do anything about it, especially mental illness wise. the best thing we can do, sometimes, is to be there. at that moment. and i think this is what the run and go is about. being there. not necessarily making the pain vanish forever, but momentarily providing warmth and love.
