Hello friends. With the heatwave moving through western North America this past week, you might've heard news of the British Columbian town, Lytton, which broke the record for the highest ever reported temperatures in Canada for three days in a row.

That town is now on fire.

So the heatwave out west, right? I think by now people might have seen stories about a small town in central BC that has shattered Canada's all-time heat record three days in a row

Yeah well now that town has been completely engulfed by a wildfire

(The story is still developing - like the fire literally hit it within the span of a couple hours as of me posting this. But seriously - how fucked up is it that the hottest place in Canada suddenly just burned to the ground?)

So the ocean is on fire; and Lytton, Canada burned to the ground in fifteen minutes after a three day heatwave of almost 50°C, where there were subsequently 710,117 lightning strikes from fire clouds that meteorologist consider the most extreme and horrifying, pyroconvective events in the satellite era. And even more people are evacuating Juniper, Canada because of lightning caused fires.

I don’t know about anyone else, but I am not even finished university and have serious concerns about dying prematurely due to climate change. I’m not even out of school yet. And anyone who thinks this is an overreaction is a fool, honestly.

After 90% of the village had to evacuate in 2021, a portion of lytton, bc appears to be back on evacuation orders again. I'm surprised none of the big news outlets are covering it right now, the residents were literally just allowed to return to their properties in june.

Fundraising for the Indigenous Communities of Lytton BC

Most of the news stories about Lytton BC describe it as having been a town of about 250 people, making no mention of the multiple indigenous communities that surrounded the town, where an unknown number of thousands also lost their homes and livelihoods.
