I have a question lol (you don’t have to answer it ) Have Harry always been cheeky, annoying towards mc in mbc? How was their first meeting?
Okay, I have no idea what just happened, but I got this message yesterday and then bam, suddenly I was writing. It’s only 1k words, but please enjoy a little blurb about the first time they met!
You couldn’t decide which felt heavier: the bookbag hanging from your shoulder, or your eyelids. It was only the second week of spring semester, but you were already feeling the effects of the late nights, early morning, and busy afternoons.
Maybe a nap will help, you thought as you trudged up the stairs to your dorm room. It was an all freshman dorm, which was nice because it meant that a lot of your neighbors were also your classmates. Callie, the girl who had been randomly assigned to be your roommate at the beginning of the year, had quickly become one of your closest friends. You already planned to room together in the sophomore dorms next year.
You will admit, you had been nervous when you first met her. It wasn’t that you were a clean freak or anything, but you certainly didn’t want your roommate to be a complete slob. Morgan had been difficult enough to live with growing up, her clothes and dishes always strewn all over your shared bedroom. You just wanted somebody tidier.
Which is why Callie was practically heavensent. She did her laundry weekly as opposed to your sister’s monthly loads, and she even folded her clothes afterwards. Once, you even spotted her cloroxing all of the surfaces in your dorm.
However, your clean surfaces and laundry-less floor was nowhere to be seen when you pushed your door open. In fact, it was the messiest you’d ever seen the place, with snack wrappers littering the ground, an open suitcase detonated in the center of the room, and a wet towel slung over the edge of your bed.
Not to mention the unfamiliar boy on your futon.
“Um…” you said quietly, “hello?”
You stood awkwardly in the doorway as the boy paused mid-chew, pulling his attention away from the open laptop in front of him. His eyes widened when he saw you, and he quickly tapped the spacebar on his computer before standing up. You couldn’t help but notice the two empty beer cans on the floor next to him.
“Hey!” He smiled. “I’m Harry, Callie’s brother. You must be her roommate.”
“Yeah,” you smiled back, telling him your name. It was a bit of relief that there wasn’t a total stranger sitting in your room. “Callie didn’t tell me you were coming to visit.”
“I wanted to surprise her,” he shrugged, falling back onto the futon heavily. “I won’t impose long though, I swear. Just the weekend.”
Your eyebrows shot up. The whole weekend? You had three different projects you had planned to start, and nothing was going to get done with the room like this. Your mother used to tell you that a disorganized environment makes for a disorganized mind.
But I mean, whatever. He was a little bit messy, and he took up a lot of space, but he seemed nice otherwise. And he wasn’t awful to look at, either. Maybe this wouldn’t be so bad. You could do your homework in the Library.
“Alright,” you shrugged, leaning down to grab some grapes from the mini-fridge, “you’re welcome to stay for however long you w….”
You trailed off after a moment, staring blankly at your completely empty fridge. Sure, there hadn’t been much in there, but enough that it was jarring to see it bare.
You heard Harry chuckle behind you.
“You ate all of my food?” You asked incredulously.
“I’ve got a big appetite,” he smirked, giving you a once over. Okay, gross.
“You shouldn’t just eat other peoples’ food,” you said sharply, closing the mini-fridge with a bit more force than necessary.
He was still smirking when he patted his belly teasingly, letting out an overly satisfied sigh. It was then that you noticed the crumbs sprinkled across the futon cover, along with the empty bag of tortilla chips crumpled into a ball on the armrest. Those had been yours, too.
“That’s so… rude,” you frowned, “this isn’t even your room.”
“It is until Sunday,” he crossed his arms behind his head as he leaned back against a pillow, unbothered.
For the first time in a long time, you didn’t have a good response. You had no idea what to say, because how were you supposed to reason with a completely unreasonable person? It was hardly believable that Harry and Callie were siblings; she would have never treated a host this way.
Since you were rendered speechless, you settled for a harsh scowl, your eyebrows pinching together in frustration as you yanked the wet towel off of you bed, carelessly tossing it over Callie’s desk chair instead. While you refused to look at him, you could feel his gaze follow you as you snatched your purse from the hook by your desk.
“Where are you going?” He asked innocently, as if he hadn’t just run you from your own room.
“I’m going to find some food,” you snarled, “some asshole ate all of mine.”
You could hear his quiet chuckles all the way down the hallway, even after you closed the door behind you. He clearly didn’t even feel guilty in the slightest. You rolled your eyes to yourself as you walked through campus.
It was just one weekend, you told yourself, you’ll never have to see him again.
You smiled at the thought, completely unaware that Harry was still sitting on your futon, staring at the door like it would magically summon you back. Despite your awkwardness, and your frustration, and the scowl that he secretly thought was kind of cute, he wanted to see more of you.
Maybe he’d have to start visiting his sister more often.
