In another bland day of scrapping and scavenging, Yachi expected little in the way of excitement. She had hoped for some tasty morsels, but alas — Not all hours could be feasting hours.

An ear twitched, however, as she sat perched on a half-wall to survey the sidewalks. Another cat wandering, distracted to the fact that there was a person on a bicycle coming straight for them.

"Wah — HEY! HEY, MOVE IT!"

She yowled, leaping down from her spot. She barreled into them, rolling in a brief tussle as the bike streaked past. The human, who had thought the cat would move on its own, glanced back in puzzlement before continuing on.

"My mom was sweet," The feline hums, shaking her head.

"She had a very pretty pelt. One of the prettiest cats in the colony, y'know — Dilute tortie, what I've heard guys here and there call it. So beautiful. I always wished I could be pretty like that.

She loved to sing. She was notable for it... They called her Asuka the songbird. Her lullabies were so warm and... comforting, especially on stormy nights in the alley."

"But... Y'know. Unconditional love is never really unconditional, is it? ...Once I told my parents I thought I was a she-cat, nobody wanted anything to do with me. Told me I was confused... Delusional. When I insisted, they dropped me."

"That's just how it goes, I guess."

Being that animals like Yachi or Annette have no way of really labeling themselves outwardly as having preferred pronouns, it's not out of the question for them to be misgendered upon first meet.

And that's okay!! I promise! I headcanon Yachi's voice to be fairly androgynous, leaning toward high-toned masc ─ Which means it's likely most would assume she's male. She might be very standoffish in correcting anyone who misgenders her, but as long as they accept her afterward, she usually warms up a bit.

I never, ever, am mad at anyone who misgenders my muses by mistake in or out of character <3

“I’m going to try getting you out. Just hold still.” ( from kendo to Yachi!)

Netting and string tangled mercilessly around her legs, the feline squirmed, spitting and hissing. It wasn't purely aggression — well, some of it was — She wasn't fully tame, after all, but she was also frightened. With a yowl, she attempted a swipe of her claws, but with the restraint of the tangle, her blow landed harmlessly at the air.

"RrrRRrOWWW!"

Another pitiful, inquisitive meow. She skirted around the woman's legs, brushing against her pleadingly. The scrawny little critter didn't have much way of communicating, but she sure was trying.

Notes: [very fanon-interpreted] Yachi once lived happily, growing up within a colony of feral cats that were her family. As she grew, she sought different ways to express herself - This led to her knack for making art out of garbage and scrap. She also began to discover that she no longer felt aligned with her gender assigned at birth, which led to many arguments, especially with her father. After being ostracized heavily and given an ultimatum (that being, "quit all this attention-seeking or leave"), Yachi struck out on her own and now wanders the streets. She idolizes humans and the idea of being a pet, thinking that it will fix all of her problems.
