We are at the pivotal point in the creation of a "New America" when the population of communities of color continues to rise marking us as the new majority. Specifically, the Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) community has grown to become the fastest growing racial group in the country, and the histories of the AAPI community demonstrate the immeasurable contributions of our people ito the mainstream American history. Despite this the important stories of our AAPI history are still often ignored contributing to a growing lack of AAPI identity across the Midwest.
As a community we have to acknowledge this historical struggles of past generations, we have to understand the ways in which our current generations have been influenced by them, and we have to build for the future generations through stories and spaces created for us and by us. We call this future generation Generation A. We must continue to fight, and the MAASU Spring Conference is an exciting opportunity to engage in lively, uncomfortable discussions, debates, and dialogues around the Midwest AAPI experience!
