Ok, so I'm just now realizing you prob meant you had a your own idea but the angst machine sparked to life. (Please share your take tho!)
Maddie has a recurring nightmare where [-] is going to be taken away and if she can call her name she'll be able to save her. Yet no matter what name she says it comes out as random noise.
It usually spirals into Maddie calling the names quieter and quieter into nothingness, her friend long gone. She has to call out of work whenever she has this dream.
