Well David isn't impressive as an actor. It always feels like Gillian is carrying herself and him through their scenes. He's good at writing but not so much of an actor. Mads and Gillian works so good because they help each other and contribute to the scenes so beautifully. It's like a well tuned instrument. David's acting is like a broken piano waaay off key!
I mean, I wouldn’t be that down on DD’s performance. I think he makes a fantastic Fox Mulder and he and Gillian have unbelievable chemistry (on and off screen) as Mulder and Scully. But I don’t think he has much range beyond Mulder, ya feel? I mean, when you look at Mads and Gillian’s body of work the range of what they have done, the way they transform themselves for every role is just incredible. I can easily see them doing Shakespeare together in the West End….or starring in a quirky Danish rom-com…or facing off in a summer blockbuster. As much as I love them as Hannibal and Bedelia, they are so much more than Hannibal and Bedelia.
They’ve often used the analogy that the hannigram relationship is like two world class chess masters who have never played a game with someone on their level before….I think that analogy applies as much to Mads and Gillian as it does to Will and Hannibal. imo they are the most talented, versatile actors on the show, perhaps the best of their generation.
