This year, I am setting some intentions with the arts, crafts, and designs that I create.
For people who dont have dates turned on for their posts, this is being posted on Jun 28, 2025
Long post under the cut!
Also I am going to pin this post and make a seperate About page.
Repurpose and use things I already have! ♻️
Burning through the recycled items stash (saved paper, cardboard, etc)
Repairing and gussying up broken or damaged items.
Modifying the clothes I already own, especially with decorative visible mending and applique.
Painting items of mine that I find boring and make them mine.
This intention excludes buying things like paint, glue, etc
The Year of Color! 🌈
Things will have more color this year!
This is partially due to the nature of my recently most commonly used material (paint pens)
But also I am leaning into including more color and dynamic shading in my work.
More gore/horror! 🫀
I'm fascinated with themes of body horror, gore, etc and need to do more with them in my work.
Figuring out good ways to paint and simulate gore/blood (currently a combo of a squirt bottle of paint & glue for drips and globs) and a spray bottle of paint & isopropyl alcohol & water for spray and splashes)
I have been slowly working on a series of works that are based around my feelings about my chronic illness and health issues, and a lot of it involves these themes.
More Whimsy and Joy! 🌟
Yes I can do both horror and whimsy.
I am pretty whimsical as it is, but its always worth stretching more
This is the litany against the idea of what I should be doing or what is expected of me. Is it fun? Do I like it? Then do it! If I end up hating it, most things can be reworked.
I will not regret making "bad" art. All art is worth making.
This also includes making my art much more overtly queer! In a world that wants us gone, existing proudly is an act of resistance.
Draw non people things! 🦝
I am pretty good at drawing people and clothes. I could stand to be better at things like flora and fauna, architecture, mechanical things, landscapes, etc
I also have been making an effort to add more backgrounds to my art, even if its lines and shapes and such.
Get My Art Out There! 🎪
Posting to social media more regularly, even if its WIPs
Trying to participate in festivals/galleries/fairs more often. Debated submitting something to the state fair or the county fair, but the deadline is in like 3 days, rip.
Doing art out and about, whether its my sketchbook at a resturaunt, sewing while hanging out with folks, or taking my supplies out into a field. Ive been looking into plien air stuff lately.
Maybe make some work that I would be comfortable selling
Accepting more commissions and/or customizations
Potentially making art for protests and activism purposes. Its hard for me to go out and do the actual protest due to my health, but I can make things for those who can and take care of them too.
Maybe some art streaming/video content? I do some streams for digital art clients every now and again, but its hard to do for traditional art which is what ive been doing more of lately.
I may add to or modify this list later, but I will in general stick to the energy of the original intentions. If you read this, thank you! Its nice to be able to talk about my thoughts around my art.
Let me know if you want more posts like this on top of the art posting!
