“...Yeah. Always.”, he turns to the other man and grins awkwardly.  Will had been sent here to help out the war effort, he’d been in law enforcement.  They’d asked him to be security for some of their best minds, including Alan Turing. “Are you?”

“Alan, I do hope you’ve been keeping yourself out of trouble while I’ve been away.” Hugh said smoothly as he walked over to the other, slipping his hands into his pockets and eyed all the paperwork, notes and scribbles that have been strewn about Alan’s workplace.

Things were beginning to settle back into what was expected, the war was over, though there was a new threat building in weapons far beyond anything Albert would be willing to sign off on, things felt calmer. The rise of technology was utterly fascinating though and was a more positive thing that had been perhaps born out of a darker need.

Albert was most curious about the notion that there could be artificial intelligence, and who better to ask than Mr Turing himself?  Having heard of his ‘Turing Test’ and only growing more interested, he turned up at the Victoria University to quiz him.

Smiling when he saw him and happily approaching and greeting with “It’s --good -to see you again, Mr --Turing.”

The daunting realisation that David had every intention of abdicating hit Albert far harder than he ever imagined.The duke had walked from his host’s house and out into the paths outside of London, leaving a trail of smoke from his cigarettes as he walked, not at all paying attention to where he was going, nor how far he had actually strayed.

Alone, clad in hat and coat as his only means of disguise, Albert finally realised that he may have been lost. Catching sight of a figure near by and nervous as he asked, “---Excuse -me, -I am -loathed -t-t-to disturb you, -but do you -know this area?”

The war was won, celebrations erupted throughout the nation as Germany surrendered, as the husbands, brothers and fathers came home to their families! Jubilation ran rampant throughout the streets of the country, finally, it was over. But there were a handful which could receive no public merit, no praise from the media, no name to add to the hero list. Alan fell into that very category, but the King was very aware of his achievements, of his contributions and he had invited him by personal invitation, to meet with him in Sandringham house.

Once inside, Albert was beaming at him. “Mr --Turing, I believe I and the --c-country owe you a --great debt of thanks.”

Declaring war was not at all an easy task, it was down right terrifying, especially as the invasions progressed through Europe. Albert knew full well that Great Britain was on that hit list and alarming reports on the efficiency of invasions before a surrender revealed that they were in for a considerable fight.

Enlisting the help of the very best, they needed to be prepared. The king was not in the habit of pulling those at work away from their jobs, but if he wanted to know what was happening, he needed them to come to him so he would not give away their position. The King could hardly go anywhere quietly. One Alan Turing was that chosen representative.

Albert waited in his own office, nervous for whatever it was they could be up against and just how much pressure would be on those he summoned to such a place and at such a time.
