Ke thabile haholo! I am so happy! I am happy because I can write that after receiving our Peace Corps site packets in training and selecting this as my top choice, I got it! I'm so happy to say that I am working with one of the most inspiring persons I have ever met. Someone who at the age of 16 founded an organization to help and empower youth in his community through cycling and sports, gathered and united community support, and has gathered and donated numerous bicycles to youth in his community. His name is Tshepo, he is nineteen now and after filing a request for a peace corps volunteer to help his organization, I am honored to say that I will be fulfilling that request. One of the first things he said to me was: "I believe giving is the mother of all successes." After many setbacks and hardships, Tshepo has maintained his organization, taking youths from Mafeteng as well as other areas on camping and cycling trips all across Lesotho and even into South Africa. He has maintained all of this despite having setbacks in sponsorship and having lost his office for the organization. But there is good news: Tshepo expects to soon have almost two hundred bicycles donated to his organization which he will donate to youths and sell to sponsors to continue his youth leadership programming. He can't stop talking about his ideas, and his passion is infectious. After just two days visiting Mafeteng, I have met numerous sponsors and partners of his. We met with chiefs, a CEO, the district administrator, local business owners, pastors, and even had a radio interview, all with people who have been helped by him and now give his organization and dreams as much support as they can. He works with them, works multiple jobs around town and helps people as much as he can to support the organization out of his own pocket. Needless to say I'm impressed, and I truly hope I can be of great service to him and his noble dream.
