We'll see if I paint something for every episode some day. Got kinda proud of the MAG2 painting, so decided to just publish all of these that I have so far.
The connectivity of the Anglerfish is insane. My favorite stuff in a lot of series is the connectivity and theorizing. I was big into FNAF theories back in the day and TMA scratches the same itch along with the mythology/theology itch. The pantheon system is so cool! Animism with an active "is it monotheism or polytheism" argument. And the Christianity references, beautiful, delicious.
I like the wood grain. I got the perspective on the coffin so nicely too. I surprised myself with the detail considering all these are A5/postcard size, but painting with acrylic paints is so luch fun. The white is silver, like shiny irl btw. With the exception of the steam from the mug and the Anglerfish outlines, those are just white. But the chains, lock, "DO NOT OPEN" text, the speech bubble, all silver. Can't get the effect on camera properly.
And MAG11 cause it's probably my favorite season 1 episode. Nice nods to shamanism and prophetic dreams. And lore. And Oliver Banks is amazing, I like his vibes. Like to the point of maybe being my favorite individual character, ignoring ships. And headcanoning him aroace, never gonna ship him with anyone.
gonna continue spamming the tag cause I forgot to note my thoughts on mag11 - the first statement from Oliver Banks (as Antonio Blake).
I had forgotten some finer details of Oliver lore:
1. He was a banker, then had a breakdown at work which was immediately followed by the death dreams starting
2. Genuinely forgot the dude ended up working in a shop selling crystals and tarot cards??
Other things of note on re-listening from this ep are related to Jon. Namely that he seems genuinely rattled by the prediction of Gertrude dying, even if he is outwardly convinced that the whole statement is a prank of some kind. The quoting of Elias saying that she 'died in the line of duty' was something I'd skimmed over there.
There's also the fact that Tim is the person Jon sees as the least likely to be trying to rattle him here. He is trusting Tim over both Martin and Sasha (and anyone else), to research the statement honestly and not keep info from him. Knowing that with how their relationship ends up in seasons 2-3 fucking hurts.
"It led me to a room, the label of which was still visible and read “Archive”. I entered to see walls covered with shelves and cabinets stretching off into the distance. These shelves were coated in a sticky black tar, which I knew at that moment was the thickened, pulpy blood that pumped through each and every one of those veins."

MAG 11: Dreamer
In mag 11 Jon thinks that the statement might be a joke to scare him, so he sends Tim to do the research about it. I don't know if it's a heartbreaking fact because we can see that s1 Jon still trust and is close to Tim, or if it's hilarious because from all his assistants Jon thinks that Tim would be the least likely do this kind of prank and suspects martin and sasha
“If anyone comes in here ranting about my death, I very much want to hear about it.”
HERE’S HOW TIME TRAVEL CAN STILL WIN
@a-mag-a-day
the magnus archives is an office romance and we were denied a sordid affair between jane prentiss and oliver banks
doing a magnus archives relisten and stumbled upon this gem:
in MAG11 Dreamer, Antonio Blake (AKA Oliver Banks) slips in details about the new job he got after his mental breakdown (we've all been there bb)
AND THEN,
in MAG32 when jon finds Jane Prentiss's statement, she has this to say regarding her new coworker at Good Energies spiritual supplies
poor Oliver DEFINITELY saw Jane in his death dreams. imagine how those thick black vines must have manifested considering her condition. did he see tiny tendrils poking in and out of her skin as a precursor to how she'd be riddled with holes? did the tendrils get worse and worse and the hive strengthened its grip on her? no wonder he felt sadness and fear.
did we know this/am i late to realizing this???
