"Your Aunt's been trying to explain the necessity for keeping yourself under control for several months now, and you've been fighting her every step of the way."
Garion hung his head. "I didn't know what she was getting at," he apologized.
"That's because you weren't listening. That's a great failing of yours, Garion."
Dammit, Belgarath, you can't have both. You can't express regret at what Garion did to Asharak, browbeat him about "I told you it would be bitter," and then continue to brush aside what Garion is going through! He's not fighting Polgara out of petulance, he's fighting her because she's 4000 years old and so far separated from the brevity of mortal life that they can't understand each other now.
They can't listen to each other right now because right, wrong, or indifferent, Pol has decided Garion is being a child and Garion has been traumatized into thinking she's a monster.
