Graycloak’s Most Used Herbal Components
I did a quick inventory of my components and found the following are herbal components I use with the greatest frequency:
Allspice
Bilberry (leaves)
Calmus
Camphor
Catnip
Cedar (sawdust-like chips)
Cinnamon (both Ceylon Cinnamon and Cassia Cinnamon)
Ginger (powdered)
Lavender
Mallow Root
Mint (garden)
Mugwort
Orange (leaves)
Orange (peel, dried and powdered)
Rosemary
Rue
Sage
Thyme
For those who are more familiar with my practice, you’re probably noticing a glaringly obvious omission - Hyssop.
If you’re read my [Musings on Components] post, you’ll remember my broad three-categories theory of components having varying degrees of intrinsic importance to a working based on where they fall on the Symbolic<->Literal representation spectrum. In my practice, Hyssop is part of the Literal Representation category - A specific plant was called out by God for use in the purification of the temple; and, as I’ve [posted] about [before], the plant we know as ‘Hyssop’ in the United States is not the same plant called out by God and referred to as ‘Hyssop’ in the scriptures. So… until I’m able to cultivate Origanum maru (O. Syriacum) on my own, I’m running hyssop-free .. much to my dismay :\
For the list above, please note this does not include resins, oils, incense, or other types of ritual and spellwork components - it’s only Herbal Components. I leave it to you, the reader, to attempt to infer what magickal operations I perform on a regular basis, based on the list provided ;)
