They sat around the coffee table, and as soon as Finn entered, each slid their plate under the table.

“Who’s been making grilled cheese sandwiches with the defibrillator paddles?”

“Dunno,” Fran murmured, looking back at Henrik who was giving them away with the dumb smirk on his face as he shrugged. He was about to make Claire laugh and Alice certainly wasn’t helping matters.

She was left to take the blame, as she turned back to Finn with a soft, “we were watching the Food Network…and this guy made killer grilled cheese with an iron. He won the challenge, so Hen–we wondered if it made better grilled cheese, and we found the defibrillator first, so…” She shrugged, as she revealed her untouched sandwich and offered half to him. 

Bonnie’s special tea she was currently off brewing more of was probably best left out of the story. Even though, they weren’t actually screaming ‘we’re sober’ or anything.

“We were about to test the theory…” she encouraged him to sit on the floor beside her, “want a vote?”

She had to laugh at the quizzical look her outburst earned her, and she spun the straw around in her glass as she explained.

“It sounds cooler than an untriggered werewolf, right? Makes me scarier. You’re a witch like your mom, and you’re more menacing than I am at this point. Hannah the Cannibal, like Silence of the Lambs, we should spread the rumors. Besides, if I do trigger, I might eat people...so it’s not really a lie.”

“Do you hear that?” She whispered into the broken silence between the witches. As Bonnie indicated she didn’t, the color began to drain from Fran’s face.

Amelia Frances…

The voice called again, her nightmares had followed her into the waking hours. In her veins, she felt the boundary quiver and crack, as if death’s hands were clawing her skin apart. Her gaze turned away from Bonnie, toward the beckoning.

A part of her thought she wouldn’t see anything. A part of her thought she was wrong. A part of her broke in a single glance.

The eyes of the woman drew her in, piercing into her soul and seeing everything. Time rewound, she would know that face in any form. Fluttered her lids closed, she remembered.

“Amelia Frances, I will never leave you,” she croaked out, as her breath grew more swallow and raspier, “‘cause spirits like ours become death, and one day, you’ll come get me. With love in the cracks a broken heart and a split soul. We’ll be one magnificent power. Be ever so patient, child, no one dies forever if we don’t want them to.” Her breath left her body, but the soul seemed to linger. But it wasn’t to watch over her or care for her, as she believed as a child. The handprints still felt visible on her wrists like shackles. What had she done?

A hand on her pulled her back, and she looked back at Bonnie, “sorry I--”

“we all just need a little help sometimes, right?”

She nodded, inhaling as much oxygen as she could manage before speaking again, “Bonnie...”

Her gaze trailed back to where the apparition of her dead grandmother had been standing just a moment ago, “I think I’m going to die.”

The Grill was all decked out for the holidays. If Santa frequented bars, Fran thought, this would surely have made his list--as far as small town bars go anyway.

“Bonnie’s giving brewing lessons in the ladies’,” Henrik whispered conspiratorially. 

“Stop it, she is not,” she shot him right back down on that nonsense.

Holding a finger up to Claire, she wagged it at her, “don’t you start.” A smirk lighting her features, she shook her head. Why was she even hanging out with this lot? A mess, the lot of them were a complete, utter mess. But they knew how to party in the face of impending doom. If they were all going down, there would be flames all the way.

“Thanks, Dave,” she greeted, as a new round of drinks was brought for the group. Henrik called this the Lockwood effect.

Henrik snorted, spewing his drink back into his glass, “what did you say?”

“Dave,” she nodded over at him to indicate who she meant, “Dave Fell...right?”

As he exchanged a look with Alice, Fran knew she had gotten it wrong. “Oh no...”

“Drew, babe,” he corrected, “his name is Drew. Some of the Mystic Falls royalty.” Tossing his arm over Claire’s shoulder, he murmured to her, “now that’s wild stuff,” before bursting out in more laughter at Fran’s expense.

“Shit,” she cursed under her breath. “Do you think he noticed?”

“I dunno, Fiona, you think so?”

Punching him in the arm, she preceded to drink herself into a normal level of embarrassment. “You suck, all of you,” she hissed before a smile slowly began to give her away.

        Although ‘petty uses of magic’ were typically looked down on in the witch community, Faye would beg to differ. She took something like ‘playing around with ignorant townspeople’, and embraced it. Or, at least tried. “ But, magic doesn’t always have to be so diligent, and duty-bound... we’re allowed some fun, Bonnie.” she shrugged it off. “—it’s not like anyone would ever catch on.”
