The cheery tone is a set up.
The herb hanging above is a punchline.
Now, the thing Eizen has learned with Magilou, is that he doesn’t want to give her what she wants. She’ll find amusement in his anger, his annoyance, so he doesn’t want to do that. But he knows damn well she put the mistletoe up there, because it’s Magilou, and she’s an agent of chaos.
“Aye,” he says, “so it is.”
And there’s only one way to deal with this, in a way that would finally catch her off guard.
He pinches her chin in between his thumb and his index finger, barely holding her in place. Then he leans in, before pressing a lingering kiss to her cheek. He smirks to himself. She can’t fuck with him.
