Maimie Lygon on The Tatler's cover. The character of Julia in Brideshead Revisited was partly based on her, despite the fact in real life she was not Evelyn's lover, but only a close friend of his. Evelyn tho forced their love in the book,as "the main character dating the brother and befriending the sister would sound too much homosexual" (Evelyn's words). Because of this forcing, Julia 's character sounds sometimes artificial and she is way less loved than Sebastian's one. The true Maimie was, tho, much brighter than Julia, and if only Evelyn would have showed how things really went, today we would have a much more complete portrait of her. #maimielygon #ladymarylygon #PoeticDandies #evelynwaugh #juliaflyte https://www.instagram.com/p/Ca2UIjDMnDr/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
"She had that aristocratic small & snub nose. But that nose, with which I loved to play with, was never the one to which I was sexually attracted." Evelyn Waugh about Maimie Lygon. #evelynwaugh #maimielygon #PoeticDandies https://www.instagram.com/p/CaFlTIDsODT/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
Lady Mary Lygon, aka Maimie, aka Blondy, how Evelyn Waugh called her. Hugh's sister, she would date (nothing less) than George of Kent for a period! There were rumours of marriage,as George seemed to like her a lot, but then the scandal of Mr. Lygon, Earl Beauchamp, which was her dad, messed up everything. When, years later, George would marry Marina, Evelyn would sarcastically comment: "I see your royal escalade is over." #maimielygon #ladymarylygon #evelynwaugh #georgeofkent #PoeticDandies #DandyRoyalsClub https://www.instagram.com/p/CZ7ZOj8swE_/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
