So I finally finished looking up all potential Sand Force owners. I did this, by looking all Pokémon that got an offensive Steel, Rock and/or Ground-type move. The results were quite interesting.
It should be noted that;
1. I included Metal Burst and Fissure into this count, even though neither get a boost from the the ability, they are still offensive moves.
2. I didn’t include removed Move Tutors and TMs. For example, the fact that Cyndaquil was capable of learning Iron Tail in Generation II or the fact that Plusle could learn Rollout in Gen III/IV Move Tutors is not included.
3. Many of the moves listed here, besides maybe Rock Tomb, Bulldoze, Earthquake, Iron Tail, Iron Head and Earth Power, Rock Slide and Stone Edge, are quite rare, or in the case of Smack Down rarer than it needs to be.
It is fairly obvious that some of the recent Pokémon in this entry, such as Klefki and Bisharp will get more moves from these three types. Same holds true for those in their higher league, for example Bastiodon will likely end up getting Rock Wrecker, Mirror Shot or Head Smash.
Even then, it is rather sad to see many of the top Pokémon in this list are way too slow to use Sand Force efficiently. Sandslash is perhaps the saddest case, as even with Sand Force it won’t stop being poor man’s Excadrill, though even keeping that reputation would have been positive for it, if Sand Force was introduced in Gen IV and given to it.
Another surprising result is the fact that most of the top have been committed to one specific ability and can’t any other. Flygon and Claydol with Levitate, Groudon with Drought/Desolate Land, whereas others have been committed to another weather, Mamoswine with Hail, Camerupt with Sunny Day, Carracosta with Rain Dance, though that might not end up being relevant as we now have multiple weather specific Pokémon such as Heliolisk... and that’s pretty much it. We need more.
