Carnival Row had been turned into a fucking holding pen for the Faerish. Not that anyone needed to be told that. Figuring out where people could go and what it meant had not been easy, and Vignette had somehow ended up near the center of that, the training she’d gained from being a Sparrowhawk pushing her to help, and knowing how to settle disputes with unhappy people, though sometimes it did really take punching someone to get them to shut the hell up. Between that, dealing with Afissa finding her in a panic, and hoping Fleury would be alright after getting shot, it felt like she’d not had time to breathe.
No one really knew why this had happened, but as news spread that the Chancellor had died, and his son, Jonah, was calling the shots, as well as how the man had died (or at least supposedly) it became clear that the Faerish were just waiting to be slaughtered. Good at hiding her rage when dealing with people, Vignette had pushed her thoughts on that aside. She was going to have to find ways for them to get out of the Burge. All that work, and all to be locked up with her wings essentially clipped!
It was late when she finally returned to the Tatterby, turned into a sort of hub, it seemed. She hadn’t been approached by The Black Raven, but she expected Dahlia to find her at some point. Technically she knew she should go find her boss, but she didn’t have the energy, this was a different thing than taking lots and outrunning leggers. She’d been here before, only never at the heart of a city, never where she didn’t know the way out. The Black Raven might be their only way to survive this, but she didn’t think they’d be doing more than bunkering down and battening the hatches until tomorrow.
She found Tourmaline’s room quite empty, not really a surprise when taken into account her friend was hurt. She paused to eye the door a moment before sighing and moving towards a corner of the room, deciding that if she was needed, someone would find her. She pulled out a small object wrapped in silver, fingers exhaustedly playing over it as she tucked herself against the wall under a window. Things always seemed to change so quickly, she had hoped there would be some semblance of... peace here in the Burge. Apparently not.
