Jazz on the Green Recap

Last Saturday was a joyful afternoon filled with music and art as sparc! the ArtMobile teamed up with The Makanda Project at the Unitarian Universalist Urban Ministry (UUUM) in Roxbury. 🎶🎨 

Attendees joined in celebrating the legacy of “Makanda” Ken McIntyre featuring Dee Alexander, while sparc! invited everyone to express their creativity by interpreting the music on canvas. From abstract designs to beautiful landscapes, the artistic energy was alive and vibrant!

A big thank you to all who came out and to the UUUM for hosting another memorable Jazz on the Green. 🌈🎶

Join us at our Open Air Studio for a vibrant afternoon filled with music, art, and community! 🎵🌈 This marks sparc! The ArtMobile’s traditional fall opening event and the Makanda Project’s final summer performance of 2024. 

All ages and stages are welcome to create and take home your masterpieces! 🎨🖌 Art supplies provided. 

In case of rain, we’ll move indoors to keep the creativity flowing! ☔️

In October 2015, PJP presented a tribute concert for two talented Philadelphia artists; saxophonist Bill Barron & trumpeter, Ted Curson, who were in the thick of things during what was called, "The New Thing" in Jazz in the late 1950s and early 1960s. The concert featured the Makanda Project, a 13 piece Boston-based big band & an ensemble, specially organized for this occasion called Quicksand; led by trumpeter Matthew Stewart w/ special guests Carol Harris, Mark Griffith & Sam Reed.
