Interviewing Olivia Sonya Aresta at Hyphen. Sonya is assisting Lashita on her initial research of the makciks' communities for RDP #2.
Sonya has been actively involved with many organizations and movements towards the transvestite issues. She was also involved with PKBI (one of the oldest NGO in the country that deals with the commercial sex workers and also transvestites). Lashita met Sonya during the RDP #01. Sonya helped doing the make ups for almost all Srikandi performances (Srikandi is a dance group invented by the commercial sex workers and the ex commercial sex workers together with Lashita during RDP #01).

Wips! August 2012: Makcik Project
This August, Wips! will be presenting the development of the Makcik Project. Some people acknowledge makcik as transvestite, transsexual, transgender, she-male, etc. The project chose to use the term makcik to hopefully define freely their findings upon this research.
From August 3, the works in progress will be presented; and day by day, new updates and items will be added in the showcase until the Wips! discussion forum on August 9.
The Makcik Project is a collaboration of three artists who grew interest on the same subject within their individual reasons. They are Ferial Afiff, Jimmy Ong, and Lashita Situmorang. Inspired by the way Lashita completed her art project in Sarkem (Red District Project 2008-2009), Ferial and Jimmy followed her lead in doing their research regarding the makciks.
Wips! (Work in Progress) is a forum for artists, curators, managers, writers and art researchers to present and discuss their on going works or projects. Wips! aims to enrich insights and develop a broader yet intimate discourses within the art public.
