For WIP Wednesday!
Enjoy some reincarnated and confused Cassian
The room was still dark when Cassian’s eyes shot open. The only thing he knew was he was lying down, and his heart was pounding so hard he could not hear anything else. Slowly his senses came back to him and with them more confusion. The air tasted stale as if all the magic of the land had been sucked out of it. Dry and humid in a way the Night Court never got. He tried to remember what he had been doing before he woke, the nightmare blurry but clinging to the peripherals of his mind. The lingering smell of ash and burning flesh brought forth memories of a whiskey-soaked carpet and a raging fire.
He had died. Cassian remembered letting the fire consume him in his grief. If Nesta Archeron was no longer going to be in this world he saw no point in staying as well. Obviously, someone had over plans.
The room he woke up in was shrouded in shadows and moonlight. Everything was still as if holding its breath waiting for his next move. The was a familiarity that teased at the back of his mind as he as he pushed himself up enough to look around the room. The painting of a soft gardenscape that hung on the was across from him. He had seen it before but the memory was clouded, the product of sleep or months of refusing to be sober.
Shadows swirled around the edges of the painting, moving far more freely than any natural shadow could have. Pomegranate, cinnamon, and steel hung in the air alerting him that Azriel was in the room as well.
