In between walks a few things have happened, such as getting the end walls tidied up in readiness for cladding. Today I made a bit of progress on a doorway too. A nearby neighbour has dismantled their garage as part of a planned house extension, so a 200yd walk enabled me to gather a few of the old trusses. The red arch shows roughly where they were in use yesterday. With local timber yards closed I had thought I'd not be able to find any batten for the roof, to enable the cedar shingles to go on. But this wood + my table saw will rectify that shortfall. The shingles themselves *all* came out of a skip, though it was a good 2 years of regular visits to collect this hoard. I had a glorious walk on Monday, but am now back sat in the throne room, deciding how to handle a stable door I'd like to fit that's a mere 35cm too tall for the hole. Probably I could make a door that would be up to the task, but if I can adapt this one that I've been hanging onto for a few years it'd be satisfying to use it up. It won't be a stable door for the toilet room though. Today I have mostly been thinking about bookmarks, after chatting to a few friends who've made wooden ones before. I often have lots of off-cuts that I don't really want to burn, so a use like this that utilities slender strips could be a handy solution. Here to test how thin they can be taken before becoming too fragile are cherry, holly, sycamore, elm, tulip wood, yew and London plane.
