Year 1831:Age of 9
"Mamaaa, noo~"
a small, heart-wrenching cry escaped the lips of a tiny wolf, her tiny wolf form trembling.Tears streamed down her furry cheeks, blurring the sight of her mother as she gently placed her daughter on a soft box beneath the sturdy wooden table.
Her mothers golden eyes, usually so full of warmth, were now clouded with a deep sorrow. "It's going to be alright, Y/n..." Her voice was a low, soothing murmur, a stark contrast to the chaos and fear that filled the air outside. She reached up onto the tabletop, her hands nudging something into view.
"Here, keep this safe for me." Her voice was thick with emotion. "I want you to find your older brother. He'll take care of you, and protect you. And take care of these for me, will you, my brave little one? Promise me you won't get caught, no matter what."
The tiny wolf nodded fiercely, her small body shaking with suppressed sobs. She laid a few familiar photographs, a delicate silver necklace, and a braided leather bracelet in front of the pup. She kissed her already wetted cheek, a final, loving gesture. Then, with a heavy sigh, she slowlybegan to close the top of the box.
"I'm so sorry, baby," she whispered, her voice cracking. "This will all be over soon. Find your older brother for us. I love you very, very much."
The darkness enveloped the tiny wolf as the box closed, the only sliver of light piercing through a small hole near my head. Curiosity and fear warred within the tiny wolf, and she cautiously peered through the opening.
Her breath hitched in her throat. A tall, cloaked figure, a vampire, stood menacingly close to her mother. She had shifted into her magnificent wolf form, her fur bristling as she dodged the vampire's swift attacks, snapping and growling defensively.
"You know," the vampire sneered, his voice dripping with cruel amusement, "you're the only wolf still standing. I don't know what you thought you could accomplish here, but your husband... is dead. We killed him."
"No..." Her mother's voice was a choked sob, filled with disbelief and agony. "Why? He was a vampire... like you. I-I thought vampires didn't kill each other..." Her voice broke, the pain raw and exposed.
"Oh, we vampires do kill each other," the vampire interrupted, his laughter cold and sharp. "Especially when one of us betrays the clan... and marries a disgusting wolf like you."
His cruel laughter echoed in the tense air as he lunged, his movements too fast for the mother wolf to fully react.
"We are not disgusting!" Her voice, though laced with grief, held a fierce defiance. "You are the disgusting ones, destroying a peaceful clan, tearing apart families who only sought a quiet life! Leave us werewolves alone!"
Her words were cut short by a sickening sound. The vampire's long, sharp nails pierced through her, and a triumphant, evil laugh filled the air.
"That is just the way the world is, honey," he sneered, his voice dripping with false pity.
Hot tears continued to flood the tiny wolfs eyes, silent sobs wracking her small body. She curled into a tight ball, clutching the photographs, the necklace, and the bracelet, desperately trying to stifle her cries. She had promised her Mama she wouldn't get caught. Her tiny body layed there in the darkness, the horrific scene playing over and over in her mind, the happy memories of helping her Mama with chores with big smiles, loud laughters and small giggles now tinged with an unbearable sadness.
The acrid smell of smoke still clung to the air, even hours after the monstrous winged figures had vanished. A small, dark blue-greenish-black wolf pup, no bigger than a loaf of bread, cautiously poked her head out of the overturned box.
Three long hours she had waited, a lifetime for one so young, until the eerie silence finally convinced her it was safe. Her tiny paws padded softly across the debris-strewn ground towards the massive, still form of her mother. She nuzzled into the thick, grey fur, a silent whimper escaping her. The warmth was fading, and a cold dread seeped into the pup's small body. For what felt like an eternity, she lay there, tears silently wetting her mother's fur.
The sound of approaching footsteps jolted her back to the box. Sobbing, she scrambled back inside, her small body trembling. The footsteps grew closer, heavier now. A large, grey wolf filled the doorway, his amber eyes scanning the ruined room. He moved towards her mother, sniffing the air.
Instinct took over. The little pup darted outfrom under the table, placing herself between the large wolf and her mother. Tiny growls rumbled in her chest, and she barked with surprising ferocity at the newcomer. The grey wolf, tilted his head in confusion.
Where had this tiny ball of dark fur come from? His gaze drifted to the box beneath the table, noting the scattered belongings within. He turned back towards the door as a flurry of smaller forms burst into the room three pups, slightly larger than the first. One had fur the color of pale sand, another a muted greenish-grey, and the third, an unusual shade of dark puple. They had heard the small, frantic barks and rushed to their guardian's side.
The dark pup stopped barking abruptly, her wide, tear-filled eyes fixed on the three newcomers who now stood infront of the large grey wolf, barking defensively at her. The sandy-furred pup, bolder than the others, stepped forward slightly. "Giri? What is it? Who's this?" he yipped, his gaze fixed on the small, trembling figure. The dark purple pup and the greenish-gray pup simply stared, her large eyes mirroring a mixture of curiosity and apprehension.
Giri lowered his head slightly, his gaze gentle despite the confusion in his eyes. "I don't know," he rumbled softly, his voice a deep baritone. "I just found her here, guarding..." He hesitated, his gaze falling back to the still form of the pup's mother. The sandy-furred pup took another tentative step closer. "She smells... sad," he murmured, his barking ceasing.
The dark blue-greenish-black pup remained frozen, her small body still trembling, torn between fear and a desperate longing for connection in this desolate world. Her gaze flickered between the three strange pups and the large, watchful wolf.
