i get why Ulysses became obsessed with the Courier now.

When something you've grown attached to is taken from you in such a bad way, "shit happens" feels like a piss poor excuse for it. There has to be a reason, there must be a motivation, because "shit happens" cannot begin to justify it.

For Ulysses' sanity, the Courier must have chosen to destroy Hopeville. Everything must have it's purpose, because otherwise it means it came down to rotten luck and Ulysses can't accept that bad luck destroyed a growing community.
