Hey girls! Still doing prompts? The chorus of Hearts Don't Break Around Here by Ed Sheeran reminds me of Bill/Laura, perhaps that song might inspire you as well ;)
Of course we still take prompts! Anytime actually - all you need is to have patience :D
So here’s the answer to your prompt; inspired only by the lyrics of the chorus ;)
Hope you like it! xxx Viv
Thatevery night I’ll kiss you you’ll say in my earOh we’re in lovearen’t we?Hands in your hair, fingers and thumbs babyIfeel safe when you’re holding me nearLove the way that youconquer your fearYou know hearts don’t break around here
“We’rein love aren’t we?” He whispered into the dark.
Billfelt restless, although he couldn’t tell why. The last couple ofdays he had been doing almost nothing else but sleep. With Laura. Intheir bed.
Thinkingthese words felt good; theirbed. They were together, Laura and Bill. He could hear her hummingnext to him. A sound almost too good to be true. The heaviness of hiseyelids returned, tired he pressed them together. Or was it becausehe didn’t want her to see his tears?
Thebed’s surface shifted next to him. Alight touch danced across his chest, like a cold breeze. It was softand yet left him feeling numb. Still keepinghis eyes closed,Bill tried to suppress the feeling of fear thatslowly crept up from the darkness around him and threatened to spreadthrough his chest, to piercehis heart and break it again.
Suddenly he was back in his viper’s cockpit, gliding through space.Nothing was in sight, the engine was off. He was alone.
Nextmoment he stared at his son’s face. He had been allowed to see hiscorpse before the funeral. They had done the best they could tomake him look presentable, but it was hard to hide the traces the accident had left on Zak’sbody. He no longer resembled the bright, smiling child Billremembered. How he must have felt when he had realised what was goingto happen? Had he been scared? Bill had faced death in the cockpit ahundred times; he knew the feeling andhe respected death, but it had never scared him – until now.Imagininghis son having to fight a losing battle against death all alone, suddenly made him feel sickwith fear.
Billfelt the weight of the emotion pressing down on his chest. Eachbreath becameharder to draw. He was no longer able to stop the panic.
Heopened his eyes. First his vision was blurred, but that wasn’t areal surprise. Bill’s eye sight had beengettingworse for a while. The touch of a small hand startled him, but notfor long. It was Laura’s touch, he could feel her soft skin; itstarted to soothe him. Her thumbs brushed the tears from his eyes andthen stroked his head and hair until the panic finally began tocease. However the breathing remained to be difficult.
He stared at her. To his great surprise his vision had suddenlybecome clearer than it had ever been. Laura’s form was hoveringabove him, her beautiful smile radiating. Strands of her hair weretickling his face as she leaned closer.
“You’rehere,” he croaked. The words were hard to form, he was losing hisstrength. Laura nodded. “I -,” hebegan to say, but she stopped him with a light kiss.
“It’sall right,” she whispered against his mouth. “You’re notalone.” Tears were streaming out of his eyes. Tears of relief.Laura hummed; he had always loved that sound. Her humming grew louderand louder, it drowned out the sound of his ragged breaths and itfilled him with warmth.
Hourslater the sun rose above the horizon, as it did every morning. It’srays kissed awake the sleeping figures of earth, warmed the soil andthe stones. As it rose higher andalso touched the wooden wallsof the cabin. It flooded the room facing east with light. A man waslying on a bed, his lips were parted, his skin was cold.
Onthe shore of Elysium, Bill and Laura finallymet again. Ready to spent the rest of their time together, knowingtheir hearts would never break again.
