A year before "Mallrats" opened in theaters, Jason Mewes made his acting debut portraying Jay in "Clerks." He returned to the role in "Chasing Amy," "Dogma," "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back," "Clerks II" and "Jay and Silent Bob Reboot." He's also appeared in two other films written and directed by pal and frequent collaborator Kevin Smith: "Zack and Miri Make a Porno" and "Yoga Hosers." But it hasn't always been smooth sailing for the longtime screen partners. The duo were briefly estranged amid Jason's battle with drug addiction, which kicked off in the late '90s. He attempted to get clean several times, but it wasn't until 2010 that sobriety stuck. He reportedly suffered a big relapse in 2009 — the same year he married Jordan Monsanto. They welcomed a daughter, Logan Lee, in 2015. Kevin Smith Says Stan Lee Will Be In Mallrats 2 Last week, we heard that Kevin Smith has got the full cast back together for Mallrats 2. That means leads Jeremy London and Jason Lee as T.S. But one member of the cast who most assumed couldn’t return was the dearly departed Stan Lee. In the 1996 original, Lee appeared as himself, dispensing sage advice to our heroes, answering questions about whether Reed Richards can stretch every single part of his body and talking about how the superheroes he created were all reflections of his own emotions. Since home video took Kevin Smith's Mallrats from box office bomb to cult sensation, it's only fair that, 25 years after its initial release, it's getting a Blu-ray special edition fit for a king. The film, which was released in 1995, will be getting a two-disc Blu-ray edition that has three cuts: the theatrical cut, an extended cut that was trimmed down during post-production, and a TV cut -- never before released officially -- that has some comically-bad overdubbing to replace language that wasn't ready for prime time. The movie, which followed on the heels of Smith's cult sensation Clerks, gave audiences the first inkling that the filmmaker would be crafting a shared universe for his characters. The movie became an entry point for Smith's movies in the '90s, since a lot of fans were interested to get into the world that spawned Dogma but both Clerks (black and white, and featuring no recognizable actors) and Chasing Amy (a movie with LGBT themes before that was a common thing) were not for everyone at the time. The movie also got a laserdisc and DVD release that featured a commentary track that at least one critic said was as funny as the movie itself.
