Malta vs Spain is in a few hours and loads of us can’t help but mention the infamous 1983 match. The final score was Spain 12-1 Malta.

Here’s the thing...Spain absolutely needed a win of 11 goals or more in order to qualify for the ‘84 Euros by beating the Netherlands in the group table. And somehow they succeeded and the mystery remains. Some say the Spanish were doping and foaming at the mouth, others say the Maltese were drugged by means of lemon wedges. Or maybe it was simply a fixed match.

Tonight the stadium is sold out and it should be an interesting match. Malta will always be the underdog but coming from a first competitive win in 13 years and still amongst the winners in the group table, they’ll be bringing their confidence for sure.
