Category 4 Hurricane Laura to hit Texas, Louisiana with 'unsurvivable storm surge'

Laura has become the first major hurricane of the 2020 season. It will reach the Texas and Louisiana coasts Wednesday night.

This is a scary storm. Cat 4 so far. And the last news I saw was implying that it could get worse. 15 to 20 foot storm surge? Yikes.

When the weather people use words like, “catastrophic” and “unsurvivable”, that’s time to pack your ass up and get the hell out of there as quickly as possible.

Sending prayers / love and light / and any other good thoughts that aren’t gonna offend anyone. Stay safe, folks!

When Lonnie (Quinn, CBS NY) looks like this, it’s time to worry.

Edit: The news preview definitely suggested it could be a Cat 5 at landfall. Cat 5!

Meander River, Alta., is under a mandatory evacuation order, as of 5:45 p.m. MT, Wednesday. Many had already left the community voluntarily as wildfires in northern Alberta continue to burn out of control.

Meander River is a small community approximately 45 minutes north of High Level, Alta. Sidney Chambaud remained in the community during the voluntary evacuation to act as security for homes left empty during the evacuation.

Evac Alert Update

*June 1, 2019 at 3:00 p.m.*

The 8 hour evacuation alert is simply a notification to allow you to prepare for potential evacuation. You are not required to evacuate at this time.

If an evacuation is issued, you will be given up to 8 hours’ notice beforehand.

Evacuation Alert

June 1, 2019 at 2:00 p.m.

Out of an abundance of caution, we are putting a wide swath of the High Level area and Mackenzie County area on an 8-hour evacuation alert.

This is due to shifting winds and dry conditions.

This means residents – located in Mackenzie County east of High Level, in areas north and south of the Peace River, including people in La Crete, Fort Vermilion and Beaver First Nation’s Boyer River and Child Lake Reserves – should start getting prepared to evacuate.

• Fuel your vehicles.

• Gather important documents.

• Have enough food and water for 2 to 3 days.

Not included in evacuation alert: Hutch Lake subdivision and Zama City.

Eastern boundary: Rural Road 120

Southern boundary: Township Road 1040

If a mandatory evacuation order is issued, bring medication, blankets, sleeping bags, personal items and identification.
